Was just gonna post it, fortunately I didn't have to throw down a shot of tequila because I remembered all the screwed up front office decisions he details and some he doesn't.

Thanks Sarver, you stupid freaking ****.

He left the 2007 New England Patriots off the critically acclaimed list.

this part is hilarious:

"Maybe the Suns didn't win a championship, but we'll remember them 100 times more fondly than the brutally efficient and hopelessly bland Spurs, who taught everyone over the years that the regular season doesn't matter, transformed the NBA Playoffs into a flopathon, revived the vile and fan-unfriendly Hack-A-Shaq strategy and did everything short of sending Bruce Bowen out on the court with a chainsaw and a taser. If the Spurs were the Team of the Decade, no wonder ratings dwindled until the league's big comeback this season. The real shame is that all the mugging, acting, eye-rolling, flopping, rule-bending and hysterical shrugging obscured what should have been remembered as a throwback sports team, a shrewdly assembled roster of well-coached guys who played beautifully together, didn't care about credit and revolved around the best power forward who ever played. Instead, we'll remember them as the team that turned the NBA Playoffs into the World Cup. Congratulations, fellas."

Btw he also correctly throws Bryan Colangelo under the bus for his disastrous handling of the 2004 offseason after the nash signing.

Too many people give the Colangelo's a pass but they have a ton of blood on their hands as well.

For the above offseason but also for selling to Sarver. Jerry talks about how this was his baby then just ****** it out to the highest bidder without any concern for how he'll take care of it.

This makes me want to kill sarver braveheart style.

this part is so sad:

"So if you're scoring at home, they downgraded from "Luol Deng or Andre Igoudala in 2004" to "Rondo in 2006" to "selling the No. 24 pick in 2007 for cash" (we'll get to that in a second) ... which means that, effectively, they traded a No. 7 pick in a loaded draft for $4.9 million. Phoenix fans, you may now light yourselves on fire."

yup, but just think about this - if we sell the 15th pick, that would mean all we got from the JJ trade was... Boris Diaw. wow. I can't imagine what's worse.

Selling Loul Deng or andre inguodala for 4.9M is pretty close to being worse.

Are their any discrepancies in the article? Seemed pretty spot on (facts wise) from what I read here?

Simmons has been known to miss a detail or three.

Simmons has been known to miss a detail or three.

he said we lost in 6 to the Spurs in 2005 - we lost in 5.

he also said we were down double digits in 5 of the 6 games last year in the fourth quarter as evidence that they really were better than us despite the suspensions. That happened 3 times, not 5. And in 2 games, we had double digit leads in the fourth quarter.

ugh pretty depressing read. I'll remember those SSOL years fondly, I had sorta lost interest in basketball and it sucked me back in. Too bad we went out that way :(

I just got done reading this. Is it sad that my first thought was to come over here, and warn you all not to read it?

Stuff like that, is why I can't stand a bandwagon fan hitching up to a team, and trying to pretend that they can feel/understand half the pain that fans that have always been there feel.

Wow, just wow. I mean I knew our front office was bad......but to see it just laid out like that, in chronological order with all the blunders listed for you. I actually feel a little sick right now....

Are you calling Simmons a bandwagon Suns fan? I thought the essay was entirely fair, and I've been a fan for almost 30 years.

NAH what really sad is the fans thinking that the failure to produce a championship was all coach, when you have an owner like sarver. then those same fans think a quality replacement coach wants to come here. HAHAHAHAHA! The suns had a shot to win it all and traded away the talent and picks for a little more profit. Watching JJ eat up the celtics for 20 in the 4th quarter the other night brought it all back.

If Sarver is smart he will redeem himself- it will cost him a lot of money, but he can do it. Use TE and MLE and use first round pick. Maybe even try to make a deal to climb up in the draft. A decent rookie along with 2 quality players that can be acquired using TE and MLE could do wonders for this team.

Yeah, and cost about $60 million over the next two seasons once you figure in the luxury tax. Not a chance.

so chris if we were to expand the "trade in and outs" for the sarver era suns:

You trade:

Andre inguodala, Joe johnson, Kurt Thomas, Marcus Banks, James Jones Jr, Shawn Marion, and 3 first round draft picks.

You get:

Shaq, Boris Diaw, #15 pick this year and cash.

something is off here, but not by much.

I ranted on Sarver in another thread and this makes my blood boil even more. Make no mistake: Sarver's penny pinching banker mentality is what cost us a championship and a potential dynasty. Now we are stuck with some bad contracts, a lame-duck coach and worn down players. Awesome. Go DBacks.
