From FoxSports:

News: The Bills are reportedly close to trading strong-side linebacker Takeo Spikes to an unnamed team.

Impact: Spikes, 30, is coming off a mediocre 2006 campaign and entering the final two years of his deal but should be healthy now a full year removed from his torn Achilles'. Keith Ellison, a sixth-round pick last year, will pick up one outside linebacker position when Spikes departs. (Sun. Mar 25, 2007)

Could it possibly be us? Would love to see us make this deal at the right price.

No way he's coming here. PFT said his salary for next year is 4.5 million. We couldn't fit him under the cap and sign our draft picks. Yeah, I know we could "renegotiate" a couple of deals, or cut someone, but I don't think we'd do that for anyone.

A LB unit of Dansby-Hayes-Spikes would be enough to make me excited. That would really free up Dansby to do a lot of blitzing.

This is why eating up all of our cap space pisses me off. It's fricking insane to eat up so much cap space when we have major holes to till

Spikes" Contract

It could be renegotiated and made more Cap friendly. A 3rd or 4th Rd pick seems reasonable.

When thinking about who the Bills are talking to, it might be the Giants. They tried to deal for Al Wilson and he failed the physical.

Seesred, I know you're not that naive. Yeah, a lot of us would blow our stack by going into the season with a ton of cap space, but just as many have blown our stack because we've purposefully eaten up cap space not to get better, but to just eat it up.

I mean, really, signing a few guys with inflated contracts is no different than signing the same bunch of guys to normal contracts and taking cap space into the season. The only difference is a weak and unconvincing game of smoke and mirrors.

Yes, but we wanted it spent aquiring talent to fill the holes not spent accelerating bonuses like we did this year. It is no different than last year. We are still left with holes to fill and a roster that could have more talent had they attempted to aquire it. I do not see why it is so hard for many to see this.

i like SPikes, but the likely contenders for him are the Giants or the Eagles

According to Philly radio it sounds as if a deal is really close for Spikes to be an Eagle for a 3rd or 4th rounder if the Eagles can work a new deal and he passes a physical of course.

No way Spikes is coming here. He passed on us last time and gave us the high sign as he left.

So it is fair to say you feel we signed guys we didn't need or they
don't fill important holes. Do you think we lost more games because of poor LB play or horrendous special teams play? I know what I saw and how I feel. How about you?

And our starting OLB is??? You're legitimately saying we're better served in getting special teams plaers at the costing of getting a starting LB of any kind?

Denny Green brought in a boat load of "special teams" players and one of the most experienced special teams coaches in the NFL. Obviously that wasn't the answer.

The Cards lost games last year not just because their special teams were bad but also because they couldn't hold on to the football in critical situations, their veteran FG kicker forgot where the uprights were, their defense never realized that the other team was going to run 3 plays before they punted not two, and the coaches couldn't remember which offensive lineman was supposed to play which position until the season was half over.

LaVar Arrington is still available.

The biggest selling point for the FO is that they could cut JJ and give LaVar all of his old jerseys, thus saving some serious coin. :raccoon:
