I have The World's Greatest Blackjack Book. It discusses counting in a very simple, easy to read method.

Not a counter and don't play much anymore... However, what always worked for me was to remain militantly consistent to the following strategies:

- ALWAYS hit on 16 or less when the dealer has a 7 or more showing.
- Always split 8's and Aces, regardless of what the dealer is showing.
- Always split any pair (obviously NOT 10's or Facecards!) whenever the dealer is showing a 4, 5 or 6.
- Always Double-Down whenever you have the chance and no matter what the dealer is showing.
- On "Soft" hands (an Ace and something less than an 8), always Double Down whenever the dealer is showing a 4, 5 or 6.
- Always hit when you have 12 and the dealer is showing a 2, or a 7 thru 10, Facecard or Ace.
- Don't hit when you have a 12 and the dealer is showing a 3, 4, 5 or 6.
- In terms of the amount to bet... Whatever you start with in terms of your initial bet (say $25), double it when you win. And then double it again should you win again. Ideally, you want to win 3-4 hands in a row and place those winnings up to bet (so 4 wins in a row and you now have $200 up as your bet). Depending upon your degree of risk-comfort or how you feel at that moment, you can then take your winnings and move back down to your initial $25 bet, or go halfway down, or, add some more to your bet...

The key - as always, is knowing when to walk away... I can pretty much guarantee that if you follow the above, you will be up at some point... The trick is to get away from the table at the right moment.
I have had a lot more wins than losses in Blackjack. I am not at all a card counter. Just been followed the above and for the most part (I've failed a few times at this....), knew when to walk away when the momentum turned... All in all, over a 10 year stretch, I am up substantially... Mainly on the back of 4 really big wins. ;)

Thanks for the advice, but what you mentioned is pretty much all a normal basic strategy which you could get for free from the casino. Some of those things are wrong to do and a lot of the things mentioned is off gut feeling.. I used to play like that but once learning how to count it is impossible for me to play in progressions unless the count is very high and player friendly

Does it tell you how to win in the long run when all you can get is 6/5 for a Blackjack?

Where do you live? All AZ casinos pay 3:2

I've experience poopy 6:5 on good one deck games in vegas.. The 6:5's ruin it.

As a new card counter it is fun and weird at the same time when you know what the advantage is. You put a lot of money out knowing you're getting a 20/blackjack and then you actually get that hand. Feels like you're almost cheating:D

I don't play much anymore, but I'm curious... what part of what I listed is "wrong to do"?

Last few times I've been in Vegas 6:5 was all I saw offered for both single deck and the big shoe. But in fairness I didn't look very hard, so perhaps a 3:2 shoe game is offered in some Casinos. But the 5 deck shoe is a buzz kill for counting. And the fact that Casinos consider counting to be cheating pisses me off, so I just stopped playing BJ a few years ago - have a much better success ratio at the poker table.

It would tell you to find a new table. :D

Although some of the 6:5 tables offer surrender, stand on all 17s etc. to try and even out the odds.
