AZ Rep reported Wed morning that there are 6,500 seats available still

dont know if that includes available club seats the team is selling on a game by game basis or not. Club seats arent counted towards a tv blackout.

My quick perusal of tickemaster seemed to indicate alot of club availability, so who knows.

Economy? People on vacation?

I just find it weird that you can sell out a relatively meaningless Seattle game, yet struggle with this one. Could be lots of season ticket holders who felt good about their finances last May (when you pay for season tix) now dont feel so confident

FWIW:

yesterday the Vikings had 14,000 tickets remaining

Viking season ticket holders got invoiced at the same time as the Cardinal

Also heard the Dolphins have not yet sold out... It was only a matter of time before pro sports felt the impact of this economy... 'course, the players are still signing record-breaking deals however... Owners can never be accused of being smart... :bang:

Ooops... just read that they did indeed sellout... Seems that a huge number of tix went for $46 per. Is it me or did the Cards not advertise ticket prices properly?? Strange...

It will sell out whether fans buy the tix or some corporation or tV station buys them. I'll bet the blackout deadline gets conveniently extended and then it miraculously sells out with tickets available on Friday.

So a refresher, for those of us without a memory.

What's the blackout mean, locally and nationally?

As a set of playoff games are "in trouble" wouldn't the NFL simply ignore blackout rules?

I mean, Don Cheadle tells me nothing is impossible.

I doubt they would ignore the blackout rules. They would just find a way to circumvent them. The Vikings have 11,000 as of this morning. They wouldn't want to set the precedent as to completely ignore the blackout. They have ways to get around it though when certain entities buy out the remainders. It has most likely already happened this year, and it definitely happened in 1998 vs. San Diego.

For the PR alone I'd think the Bidwells could do what other owners have done in such situations: Buy up the tickets and donate the seats to the military and/or kid's charities.

There is NO WAY a network is going to allow a playoff game be blacked out in a primary market. There's more than a million dollars on the line just for the local affiliate, and probably upwards of $10 million on the line for the network.

You can be assured it will be on TV.

for the NFL, the team cant buy the tickets

they can get sponsors / local tv to effectively guarantee the sell out -- but you need to close that gap. 5,000 remaining tickets at $50 a pop is $250,000. That is not a small amount of money for a local tv station or sponsor to pony up on short notice.

I bet this has not gone unnoticed by the Bidwill family and will encourage them to stay focused on improving the team in 2009. There are only so many entertainment dollars to be spent by the fan during this recession and do not want to spend their hard earned money on a sport that will not leave them fulfilled.

I'm sure that this will help -

Cardinals score big as fans scramble for team-logo gear

There was a time when Bonnie Burns never would have worn a piece of clothing with an Arizona Cardinals logo because of the team's futility.

But there she was Sunday, during the team's final regular-season home game, with hundreds of other fans, scooping up Cardinals jerseys, hats, T-shirts and footballs at the team shop at University of Phoenix Stadium.
