Jones Confirmed for Blade Series
Source: Variety
November 10, 2005

Spike TV has cast Kirk "Sticky" Jones to star in the cable channel's premiere original drama effort Blade, reports Variety.

Based on the comic book and film franchise of the same name, Blade centers on a half-man, half-vampire warrior endeavoring to save the human race from a demonic underworld.

Feature screenwriter David Goyer (Batman Begins, the "Blade" trilogy) is executive producing and co-writing the script with the comic's author Geoff Johns. New Line Television is producing.

Spike committed to the project in spring and production is set to begin November 14 in Vancouver. Should Blade get a series pickup, Spike executives are eyeing a June 2006 premiere.

Jill Wagner, Neil Jackson, Nelson Lee and Jessica Gower round out the cast. Peter O'Fallon will direct.

Marvel's Avi Arad and New Line's Jim Rosenthal and Jon Kroll also will executive produce. Bill McGoldrick and Lisa Ullmann will oversee for Spike.

Jones was a regular on FX drama "Over There" and had a recurring role on "The Shield." He is best known, however, as frontman "Sticky Fingaz" for hip-hop group Onyx.

David Goyer on the Blade Show
Source: Scott
January 2006

Now Playing Magazine caught up with David Goyer in Los Angeles Thursday. He is executive producing the upcoming Spike TV Blade pilot and potential series. Here's a clip:

"We talked about doing a TV show actually since the first Blade film," Goyer says. "We tossed around a couple of different ideas. But something I realized [was] that in order to do it for TV, we had to do something that TV could do better than the features. And one of the things that the fans always seemed to be really interested in were all the inner workings and machinations of the vampire world."

Saw some clips of this on Spike the other night. Looks good.

Spike TV Picks Up the Blade Series
Source: Variety
January 30, 2006

Spike TV is sinking its teeth into a small-screen adaptation of Blade, greenlighting 13 hours of the vampire drama from New Line TV, reports Variety.

Batman Begins screenwriter David Goyer, who also wrote the "Blade" trilogy, will executive produce alongside showrunners David Simkins, Marvel Entertainment principal Avi Arad and New Line's Jim Rosenthal and Jon Kroll. Goyer wrote the two-hour pilot with comics author Geoff Johns.

Kirk Sticky Jones (FX's Over There) stars as the titular half-vampire warrior trying to save the human race from a demonic underworld. Jill Wagner, Neil Jackson, Nelson Lee and Jessica Gower also star. Peter O'Fallon directed the pilot.

Cabler shot the two-hour pilot -- which will kick off the series as a movie event this June -- late last year in Vancouver. Production on the remaining 11 episodes will begin this spring.

Spike exec VP of programming Pancho Mansfield said Goyer "brought the quality of the 'Blade' films and the maturity of 'Batman' to this series.

"It delivers to the hardcore fans of the franchise, but it's also got a lot of soul," Mansfield said.

Blade also reps the first big drama series launch from New Line.

Rumor is there won't be a second season.

Started off strong but lost viewers as it went along.

The only show I like is that zanny Japanese gameshow they voice over with Kenny Blankenship. I think they have a bad channel listing (atleast on DirecTV) they are in the high 300's with the Jesus, news and kids channels. They need to get in the mid 200's near the discovery channels and they would get more views.

A good channel location is like a good real estate location, I swear
