After a mistake in the game Bobby, night put a little right hook on his face. He was mad when the player didn't box out, and came to the bench and hit him when the player didnt look into his eyes, so he got his attention.

Most likley not a big deal since he didn't fully clock him, but considering his anger problems it needs to be looked at.

it's should be a big deal - better way to handle this - i agree with the sentiment out there that he should practice what he preaches

but with that, these kids should know by now what they are getting into with knight

I think ESPN is exaggerating by calling it a slap, and you can clearly read his lips saying get your head up. But given Knight's history he OUGHT to be smart enough not to do that sort of stuff, but he's not.

you should never touch a player - as a teacher you should know better ways to deal with it

send the kid to the locker room and then call a nice early practice for the whole team to run on his behalf - he (and everyone else) would easily get the message

Oh I'm not defending Knight, I hate the guy. I'm just saying if that was howland or Lute etc ESPN wouldn't be calling it a slap or a strike. But Knight has a history and he has to understand it is going to impact the way we look at his actions(ala Jerramy Stevens).

I also find it amusing that the BK defense guys keep saying look the kid said it was no big deal, the mom said it was no big deal, why are you making it a big deal? Hello did we learn nothing from the Neil Reed case at IU, you really think any kid who's not a McDonald's AA lock top 5 NBA draft pick is going to speak out against BK? Neil Reed got death threats and all sorts of stuff, called every name in the book, even after there was video evidence he was telling the truth, he was called a traitor.

Howland or Lute wouldn't do this and that is a big difference

also, stevens hasn't had a history of on field incidents - knight has had physical contact with players before, thrown chairs, berated players/refs, etc

finally I never got into the semantics of what he did - just that any contact liek that is unacceptable, regardless of who you are or what you call it - i've attached the link under below - I wouldn't call it a slap, but he did knock him under the chin

Russ - you have to call it something when you report it - what word would you use?

I don't know the right word but slap to me implies open hand to the face not back of hand to the chin. He definitely did not just lift the kids chin up like he says he did, he's lying about that.

Again I'm not defending what he did I just think ESPN exaggerated it and then immediately started interviewing their own people(Like Fraschilla and bilas) who said it was no big deal. It was like ESPN created the entire controversy "in house."

People forget even Isiah Thomas once said he had no problem with Knight grabbing him by the shirt at the Pan Am games in Puerto Rico when he was a senior in HS. he said Knight reminded him of his HS coach. He later admitted one of the reasons he turned pro early was he had decided he no longer needed that level of authority figure after 4 years in HS and 2 in college under that type of personality(if you've seen HoopDreams, Gates HS coach is the same guy who coached Isiah, real disciplinarian). Knight had strongly advised against Isiah leaving early, at the time he denied his relationship with BK had any impact, but years later he admitted it did. Of course by then he was an established all star, it was a lot easier for him to say it then.

I just think it's silly to ask the kid what he thinks, of course he's going to say he has no problem with it, the man holds his scholarship in his hands.

I can agree with all of that and I definitely feel bad for the kid - not the national story he was looking to make for sure - then again, i'm not sure why anyone would sign up for a knight program

i just think the message needs to get out that times have been changing and you can't lay hands on players

i also think that guy who preaches discipline, respect, etc has done a historically bad job of showing any of it

Completely agree.

I guess it comes down to what people tolerate. For example. apparently Kansas State had a bunch of big wigs at courtside for their opening scrimmage(Washburn) and the gym was fairly empty so they were treated to a nonstop 2 hour curse fest from new coach Bob Huggins. People said it got so bag many of the "guests" simply left, apalled that they hired this lunatic as a coach. I guess some are alums, boosters etc that were just stunned at the words coming out of his mouth directed at the refs and his own players.

Bobby is Bobby. He has his own set of rules. You don't like it, don't send your boy to play for him.

I'll bet you that kid makes sure he makes eye contact next time.

It was a "love tap".
