Boisesuns Weekly Top 25: Pre-season Edition

Each week when the season starts, I will update the standings with records and a short blurb on why each team is where it stands. A team that loses will fall in the rankings pretty far depending on on their opponent. Basically you can move up far by winning big games, and you can move up steadily, by winning the games you are supposed to.

College Football is less that a month away. This year we have games on almost every day of the week.

1. Ohio State-Smith and Ginn Jr are still there, but they lost some help on defense. Their strong finish in 2005 puts them at #1 in my poll.
2. Notre Dame- Quinn leads a strong team back, but being an Independant team means a tough schedule.
3. Texas - How do they replace Vince young? The team will still be strong, but a new signal caller is always a wildcard.
4. Auburn-Do they finally have a top team again? Opens the season with Washington St.
5. Southern Cal-Still a good team with good talent, but most of their starters from last year are playing on Sundays now.
6. West Virginia- Great season last year, can they repeat?
7. Florida- Urban Meyer's first season went well, and expectations are high again
8. Louisiana State-Will this be a strong season for LSU? At least they get to play in the Sugar Bowl a couple times a year no matter what.
9. Louisville- Strong team coming back in a winable conference.
10. Florida State- Opens the season against Miami, could be a great start to the season with a big win, or another wrinkle for Bobby.
11. Miami-Florida- Suspensions abound, but they still have a failry important Florida State Game to play- The Jail Bowl
12. California- Opens the season against Tennessee-Ouch.
13. Oklahoma-Would have been ranked higher, but now the QB siatuation makes things look interesting.
14. Michigan-Huge stadium, and huge expectations. Tough schedule.
15. Iowa-Has a strong team coming back. They will make some noise early.
16. Georgia-Georgia is always strong and well coached, but they seem to lose at the wrong time. They are hoping this year will be different
17. Virginia Tech- What happens with Tech? Beware of early season upsets.
18. Nebraska- Can they bring back the dominance of old, or will they have another dissaponting season?
19. Penn State- Joe Pa had a good season last year. He's almost as old as his win percentage.
20. Clemson-Like in past years, Clemson starts ranked in the Top 25 and then makes its exit.
21. Texas Tech- Run N Gun and no defense. Can it last?
22. Tennessee- Big first Game at home VS Cal. Tough test for the checkerd endzones.
23. Arizona State- Dirk Koetter is under pressure to win, and this season expectations in the Valley are just as high.
24. Utah- Will they be the Mid Major that breaks into the BCS this year like a few years ago? A win to open the season aginst UCLA would be a nice start.
25. Oregon-Always a question mark, and this season is no different.
