"TEMPE, Ariz. -- Anquan Boldin has a fractured sinus as a result of what he acknowledges was the worst hit he's received in his football career.

The Arizona Cardinals standout wide receiver doesn't know how long he will be sidelined, but when he returns, he says, there will be no change in his trademark tough, aggressive style.

"For me it was just a part of football," Boldin said after watching his teammates practice on Wednesday. "It's an unfortunate incident that happened but, you know, you take your bumps and bruises." "

It was scary. He is a warrior and I want him to take a few weeks off just to be safe.

That title is totally misleading FYI!

That article does not say he is out.

probably 2 or 3 weeks

theres no reason to change his style....this is the first hit of that type, and that type of shot is rare

It is only a broken nose. It has already played with that once before in preseason. He will be out 1 week Tops.

What keeps football players vs hockey players out of a game never ceases to amaze me.

In hockey, a broken nose (and there's a hell of a lot more of those in that game) is simply covered with a face shield. No one misses a game over what is considered a very minor injury.

Cause Hockey players are a different breed !

So...how long is he expected to be out?

(Note - I'm hoping he'll at least be held out for Sunday's game - at least as a precautionary measure).

Is it just me? So he's nicked...I want Q to go this Sunday...and have a HUGE game.

If it was me and I had no concussion after-effects? I would be suiting up!

If its a broken nose he really should play it not that serious and these next two games can make or break our season! Come on Q be the heart of the team.

I'm not a doctor but a sinus is not a nose. The sinus is the cavity in the head so if he broke a sinus it's like fracturing a bone in your skull isn't it?

Yep. I'm no doctor either, but I suppose it depends on the severity of Boldin's condition which I don't think has been revealed. Patients with mildly displaced anterior table fractures recover extremely well, and significant long-term sequelae are uncommon. Displaced FS fractures generally result from more extreme forces. Consequently, most patients who undergo surgical treatment of these injuries have some long-term sequelae. The most common sequelae are mild and include frontal headache (20%), sinus infections (12%), sinus fullness (11%), sinus drainage (10%), and forehead depression (10%). Less common but more severe long-term sequelae include diplopia (4%), seizures (4%), mucocele formation (exact incidence uncertain [0-10%]), and brain abscess (1%).

He didn't fracture his sinus. You can't fracture a sinus because it's a hole in a bone. He fractured his sinus membrane. Basically, it has a cut or rip in it.

If its a broken nose he can go. he said on the radio that he was fully conciece for almost the whole incident on the field and that he actually wanted to get up and walk off the field. Footballis dangerous and that wont change this week, next week, or ever. Just wear a protective shield and game on.

Right but it's not the nose, the sinus cavity is presumably surrounded by something is it bone or not is what I'm asking.

I tried googling fractured sinus membrane but all you get is 700 billion links that say Anquan Boldin has a fractured sinus membrane.

I've had sinus surgery but I don't recall any discussion of sinus membranes it was all about enlarged turbinates and things of that nature. I don't think this is a broken nose but it doesn't sound like it's the skull either.

Nearest link I can find is perforated sinus membrane and that doesn't really help much.

If it were something in the skull, I find it nearly impossible for him to not have any signs of concussion at all....

We have some guys in wheel chairs for life with hits like that. No one wants to put a guy in a wheel chair but there have been guys in the NFL known as head hunters who want to put you out of the game. No one knows what the intentions of the guy who hit Boldin were except the guy who hit him. I do not think he intended to do what he did but he very well may have intended to hit him in the head in an attempt to break up the play. It is well known that players want to knock a good QB out of a game. They are great targets and can take tremendous hits from the blindside. You got to be one tough dude to play QB in the NFL.
