Earlier this month, the Boston Bruins re-assigned prospect Matthew Poitras to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins. Leading up to this demotion, the 2022 second-round pick had cooled off with the Original Six club, posting zero points in his last nine games.
Since being re-assigned to Providence, Poitras has made an offensive impact. In his first three games back with the AHL squad since his demotion, the 21-year-old forward has recorded four assists.
Seeing Poitras immediately produce solid offensive production back with Providence is a good sign. If the young forward continues to stay hot offensively, it could open the door for him to get another recall to Boston's roster before the season is complete.
Poitras has shown his offensive potential any time he has been with Providence this season, too. In 27 games with the AHL squad this season, he has nine goals, 16 points, and 25 points. This includes seven points in his last six AHL games and a seven-game goal streak from Dec. 6 to Dec. 18.
It will now be interesting to see how Poitras builds on his strong play with Providence from here.
