The Boston Celtics defeated the Phoenix Suns 123-103 Friday night, setting the new NBA single-season 3-point record in the process. Boston is now 57-20 for the season.

Midway through the first quarter it looked as if the Suns were going to challenge the Celtics. In the blink of an eye, however, Boston raced ahead, ripping open a 23-point lead before halftime. From there, the Suns were unable to keep pace. All-Star Jaylen Brown was a big part of Boston's success, and his 31 points led all Celtics scorers. Six guys in green scored in double figures by the time the final horn sounded, punctuating what was a well-rounded and effective offensive showcase.

Here's a closer recap from Friday night at TD Garden and a 123-103 Celtics home victory.

First quarter

Brown had been listed as questionable prior to the game with a bone bruise in his knee, but the All-Star forward ended up suiting up for the Celtics. This meant Boston was at full strength, while Phoenix was without superstar Kevin Durant.

The Suns showed some fight early on, thanks to a scoring outburst from Devin Booker. He scored 37 points with 6 assists assists by the end of the night.

But once the Celtics got going, the team never looked back. Boston closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to pull ahead of Phoenix and capture a big lead heading into the second frame.

Second quarter

The Celtics continued to pour it on at this point in the game. Per usual, 3-point shooting was a major piece to the puzzle for Boston.

For the game, the Celtics shot 14-for-39 from deep, but this number took a hit because of handful of missed shots later in the game when things were already out of reach. During the heart of the action, Boston hit shots in rhythm, especially here in the second quarter. (Either way, Phoenix shot an even icier 12-for-37 on 3's for the night.)

All told, Boston hit the locker room firmly in control of the pace and flow of the game.

Third quarter

Boston's success continued in the second half. At times the Suns played the home team even, but they couldn't do much to cut into the lead the Celtics had already built.

Brown was crucial for the guys in green. He shot an efficient 10-for-16 from the field, and also turned in 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 28 minutes of action.

Phoenix big man Oso Ighodaro contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds, but outside of him and Booker, the Suns really struggled to put points on the board.

Fourth quarter

Even with a win seemingly in the bag, the Celtics played the right way. This included a tight contest at the rim from big man Kristaps Porzingis, who eventually required stitches in his nose after getting hit across the face. (He was all smiles leaving the court.)

For the game, the Celtics logged 28 assists on 45 made field goals, another metric of a good night at the office. It was a reminder of how deep and talented Boston is.

The Celtics are back in action Sunday afternoon with Marcus Smart and the Washington Wizards set to visit TD Garden.
