Former Seattle Kraken forward Brandon Tanev will return to Seattle as a Winnipeg Jets player for the first time since being traded at the deadline.
In his Kraken tenure, Tanev recorded 41 goals and 83 points in 238 games, providing physicality and defensive responsibility on the wing. A fan favourite for his lively personality, and a beloved teammate for his high work rate.
Kraken GM Ron Francis stated that he would have wanted to sign Tanev to an extension if the price was right, but if not, he would have moved Tanev, who was a pending UFA.
Ultimately, it led to the 33-year-old returning to the Jets, where his career started.
He's played just four games since the trade occurred, recording an assist to go along with 10 hits and four blocked shots.
The Jets lead the NHL in points, tied for first place with the Washington Capitals, but lead in multiple key statistics. They have the No. 1 power play and allow the fewest goals per game. Tanev likely won't have any effect on the power play's success but can be a contributor to maintaining their rank among the best defensive teams.
His penalty-killing prowess should help them improve their 79.5% success rate and continue to add balance to an already strong roster.
The Jets are in a great position to go on a long playoff run, and Tanev could be a vital contributor to it.
