Brave

Release Date: June 22, 2012 (3D/2D theaters)
Studio: Disney•Pixar
Director: Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman
Screenwriter: Mark Andrews, Steve Purcell, Brenda Chapman, Irene Mecchi
Genre: Adventure, Animation, Comedy
MPAA Rating: PG (for some scary action and rude humor)
Website: Disney.com/Brave

Starring: Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane

Plot Summary: Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In "Brave," a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida's actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it's too late.

Directed by Mark Andrews ("The Incredibles," "Ratatouille," "John Carter") and Brenda Chapman ("The Lion King," "Prince of Egypt"), and produced by Katherine Sarafian ("Lifted," "The Incredibles"), "Brave" is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and the signature Pixar humor enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The film takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Brave Becomes Disney•Pixar's 13th #1 Movie

Brave followed suit with Disney•Pixar's previous 12 movies, opening in first place with an estimated $66.7 million in 4,164 theaters. It's Pixar Animation's fourth biggest non-sequel opening after Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Up, putting it just ahead of last year's Cars 2.

I enjoyed it immensely. It's a very simply told fairy tale. Merida's hair is amazing.

There are some dark, scary parts that I thought may be too intense for very small kids, but I saw it at a matinee and no one left. In fact there were parts where the kids were so enthralled there wasn't a peep or a candy wrapper rustle to be heard.

Great music too.

So you would recommend me taking my grandkids (7, 8 and 10)?

BTW they act like 14, 15 and 17,

Yes. :)

The only negative things I've heard about it are from people disappointed that Pixar didn't re-invent animation on this one. (Though they actually did for Merida's hair. Which is worth the price of admission.)

My kids loved it. The wife and I thought it was very good. It is not going to crack the Pixar top 5 for me but that doesn't mean it wasn't good. It's just not a Pixar classic IMO.

At this point in time, Pixar could animate two hours of turds being flushed and it would hit #1 opening week and be an attraction at Disney.

This movie was okay, but there was no reason it HAD to be animated. A real actress would have been far more charming. IMHO

True.

But Disney has always had that following.

I can't talk though, I am a Dreamworks-a-holic.
