Former Texas Longhorns defensive back Vernon Broughton has been drafted by the New Orleans Saints. The Houston native was taken 71st in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Broughton spent much of his career backing up former stars Byron Murphy and T’Vondre Sweat. This year, as a starter Broughton blossomed into a third round NFL Draft pick.

The tackle had 39 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries while starting 15 games. An impressive stat sheet for sure.

At 6-foot 5-inches and 311-pounds, Broughton has the size NFL scouting departments are looking for to play interior defensive line. One thing coaches love that Broughton has become known for is tracking down runners from behind, which shows off his speed and heart.

Broughton’s talent, motor and size make him a great value for the Saints.
