Colorado's taking the slow ride into the tank and talks of Fuentes being available are starting to surface. 31-year-old closer with 15 saves on a sub .500 team. Had 30 last year with 6 blown saves, but 31 year before with just 3 blown saves. Valverde, by comparison, had 15/2 and 18/4. Hard to really compare based on opportunities, but if acquired, might give the D-Backs a more formidable two-headed closer.

Theoretically, Fuentes and his nasty slider could be a set up for Valverde. Or vice versa. Fuentes struggles much less against lefties than Valverde.

I'd try to go after him. The bullpen has been pretty strong, but I feel that we need another reliable guy in there because I'm not sure how long Valverde will last in the closer's role. He makes me really nervous.

Are you willing to give up a Carlos Gonzalez (and more) for him? The asking price for Fuentes at the deadline would be astronomical.

Not really sure what mgt would be willing to give up, but Upton and Gonzalez would be off limits in my books. I'd look at offering any combo of corner outfielders and pitching projects we have down there that aren't named Upton or Gonzalez.
