Bridges - LT, Massie - RT...why hasn't this happened already?

I think Massie will have the starting RT job - he'll mess up a ton, but he's got talent and will get better despite the world's biggest Springsteen fan "coaching" him.

On the other side, Bridges has actually been able to play LT in the past. He has more experience than the guys they are tossing at that position, and should be the guy there.

Why wasn't Bridges the first option at LT? Over Young?

Can't figure this out either. I actually felt sorry for Young tonight. He has no business starting at all. Bridges isn't good but agreed he is the best we have at this point.

Seemed like we didn't start chipping with the TE or back until the second half. Hopefully Whiz just wanted to see guys working on an island, because if our tackles get shredded in the regular season and we don't give them any help this team is going to be (even more) brutal to watch on offense.

We tried chipping w/ a TE after one of DJ's allowed sacks in the first half, then he missed his assignment and tried to block the interior.

OT - correct me if I'm wrong, but did Whiz and/or Grimm give Young the business on the sidelines? Thought I saw it

Oh okay that's right. I remember catching part of that replay with dilfer/berman having an "oh man..." reaction when he stepped inside. And I definitely saw him standing there looking pretty sheepish next to Whiz. I couldn't tell what tone Whiz was coming across with, but he definitely wasn't smiling.

Coaches know what they have in Bridges and wanted to see Young and Batiste get some live bullet action in a game.

I think it's down to Bridges & Batiste as our starting OT's for now. Outside shot for Massie to start at RT at the beginning of the season but do expect him to take over at some point this year.

Everyone has avoided talking about Snyder moving to RT so I don't think that will or should happen.

Because Bridges has played more RT than LT. He is a career backup who hit his cieling a long time ago. He also has struggled quite a bit.

This is what I suggested:

LT: Batiste (has played LT and not RT; if he struggled as the RT, he may do ok as a LT)
LG: Colledge
C: Sendlein
RG: Snyder
RT: Massie (throw him into the fire if he is expected to be our starter eventually, its not that we have better options available at this point)

And it seems worked well during the game. I think we should go into the season with this line.

Colledge was horrendous last night, btw. Abysmal.

I agree AZ1965,

LT: Batiste
LG: Colledge (blech)
OC: Sendlien
RG: Snyder
RT: Massie

Looked OK tonight to me. Better then what I have seen so far in preseason. Now if only Colledge could play up to his hype.

I hate both of our guards. And they have been the same 2 since training camp started.

The refusal to address this problem in the offseason year after year is baffling. It's difficult to believe that we've been having this conversation on ASFN for 15 years and the only thing that has changed is that the line has gotten worse.

This disaster of an oline has gone on long enough. It's pathetic.

it was what I was reflecting on last night.

how is it that one injury has lead to the two starting tackles being: a journeyman undrafted free agent, and, this year's 4th round draft choice?

they have spent above average free agent dollars on guards the last two offseasons -- arguably the easiest offensive line position to find, and definitely the easiest to cover up if you have an issue.

the team pretty much put all its eggs in the "Brandon Keith and Levi Brown will develop basket" -- and that basket just got run over by Kamerion Wimbley on his way to the QB last night.

I think it's entirely possible that Senio Kelemete and Jeremy Bridges (or even Rich Ohrnsberger) will be the two starting guards by mid-season or possibly sooner.

A line and backups that makes more sense to me:
LT-Batiste/Waiver Wire
LG-Colledge/Kelemete
C--Sendlein/Orhendorf(Sp?)
RG-Bridges/(Orhendorf)
RT-Snyder/Massie

In time, I'm hoping that Massie develops enough to start. And, imo, he has made progress.

It hasn't happened yet because it looked like Bridges couldn't even handle the RT spot the first three preseason games. What did he do at RT in those 3 games to make the coaches think he could even handle the LT spot?

Putting Bridges at LT would just be re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic.

Whoever thought we'd be looking back on sacks of meat like LJ Shelton and Lester Holmes as "the good old days".

I understand if Levi is the best LT we could get. Elite LT's don't grow on trees. But why can't we pick up a couple of decent guards or a RT? It seems like this line gets worse each year. Every time we lose a piece, we replace it with garbage.

I don't know, from what I've seen Bridges has played better at LT than he has at RT. The reverse of Levi Brown.
