Ahead of the start of NFL free agency, we published a list of needs for the Denver Broncos last week that started with tight end, running back, inside linebacker and safety. Also on the list were defensive line and backup quarterback positions.

Check. TBD. Check. Check. Check. Check.

Broncos general manager George Paton and coach Sean Payton were busy starting with the eve of the NFL's free agency negotiating window when they brought back defensive lineman D.J. Jones (✅) and backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham (✅).

Then, on the first day of "legal tampering," Denver struck deals with safety Talanoa Hufanga (✅) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (✅). Two days later, the Broncos landed tight end Evan Engram (✅).

Paton has done a great job addressing the team's biggest needs, freeing the team up to select the best players available in the NFL draft instead of reaching for needs. That said, there is still one glaring need at running back, and the Denver figures to add one early in the draft, possibly even in the first round.

Fortunately for the Broncos, this year's running back class is deep. Denver's sitting pretty going into the NFL draft next month.
