Broncos, Seahawks pursued Juwan Johnson before re-signing with the Saints

Juwan Johnson returned to the New Orleans Saints after testing the free agent market. In a press conference after his return, Johnson gave a little insight into what his market looked like.

Familiarity was a theme of Johnson’s potential suitors. “Obviously, Sean was trying to get me from the Broncos and the Seahawks and some other teams. Those are teams that are very familiar with me,” Johnson told reporters.

That puts his former head coach, Sean Payton and Johnson’s former offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak, at the top of the list of potential suitors. The Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos would have provided Johnson with a seamless transition because of familiarity within those systems. There's something to be said for former coaches aggressively pursuing a player.

Johnson has the ability to be a reliable starting tight end if he can string together his high points more consistently. The fact both offensive minds he's played under want him back speaks to his ceiling. The pressure is now on Kellen Moore to help Johnson reach that ceiling.
