The Browns are bringing in veteran help for the wide receiving corps. Even more important, they're bolstering their return game.

A league source confirmed for the Beacon Journal the Browns are signing wide receiver/return specialist DeAndre Carter. Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz was the first to report the one-year deal worth nearly $800,000 guaranteed.

Carter, who turns 32 on April 10, spent last season with the Chicago Bears. Although he only had nine receptions on 14 targets for 72 yards, he had double-digit returns on both kickoffs and punts.

The seven-year pro averaged 9.3 yards on 17 punt returns. He also averaged 31.9 yards on 15 kick returns, which ranked second in the league.

As a team, the Browns were 30th in kickoff return average (24.8 yards) and 11th in punt return average (10 yards) last season.

Carter has spent time in his career with Philadelphia Eagles (2018), Houston Texans (2018-20), Bears (2020, 2024), Washington Commanders (2021), Los Angeles Chargers (2022) and Las Vegas Raiders. He played in 17 games every season from 2021-23 before being limited to 13 games in Chicago last season.

Carter's career receiving totals are 117 receptions for 1,331 yards and six touchdowns. He's averaged 9.7 yards on 149 punts returns, and 23.5 yards on 133 kickoff returns with one touchdown.
