I wonder if he has developed some sort of analytics system for football. I don't know how you would as it's not nearly as repetitive as baseball, but interesting.

I bet you could if you aggregate certain subgroupings of positions and query for other specifics attributes to use in that pool. I figure this is how Seattle does it - they bring in athletes with certain characteristics for certain position groups and give them a simple set of instructions that fits those attributes - then they churn through as many as possible to get a few to stick, add some Adderall and go play.

I saw thinking the same thing. So many variables on very play. I guess I could see it for the OL and certain blocking schemes. And maybe for the draft and skill players?

Look at profootballfocus.com

There are analytics...and often they are true

Profootball had Arron Donald as the most dominant DL coming out of college in the past 5 years....and they were dead on. Just one of hundreds of analytics where they have it right.

Well, it didn't work that well in Oakland. After all was said and done talent still won out.

The A's where right there almost every year while spending 20% of what the Yankees did. It worked pretty darn well IMHO. If they could have spent real money, they would have won a handful of WS.

But they didn't. The entire point is to win a World Series and the A's, in that time, only won 1 playoff series. Hell, no team has won as cheaply as the 1993 Phillies with a team full of has beens, never wases(?), and castoffs that got hot, stayed hot, and ended up in the World Series and came close to winning. But in the end, they didn't win. It's takes home grown talent as well as key free agents to win a championship. Moneyball is a good concept but in the end, all they were was competitive and nothing more. No World Series appearances and no World Series championships.

As for this guy and the Browns, I'm sure the Browns fans would take in a Voodoo priest if it would do any good.

The problem was that teams like the Red Sox went all-in on the same philosophy and were outbidding for some of the same players.

Money doesn't do it all. The 2010-11 Phillies are an example of that. They fork out all this money for Cliff Lee and Roy Halliday(same 2 players they traded away their futures for) and trade away minor leaguers for Roy Oswalt and Hunter Pence and ended up winning squat and it has set this franchise back 10 years at least. Thank God Amaro is gone.
