The contract details for the newest defensive tackle for the Cleveland Browns, Maliek Collins, have hit for public consumption.
Here is what we did know about the contract that Collins signed in free agency: it is a two-year deal worth $20 million in total. Now we know exactly how much money he has been guaranteed and how the Browns have spread out that money.
According to ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi, Collins' deal has four void years attached to it to keep his base cap hit at the veteran minimum in both 2025 and 2026. This gives the Browns more cap space to continue to work with by backloading his cap hit into the forever and exponentially rising cap.
Collins will have a cap hit of just $4.2 million in 2025 as the Browns have backloaded some of the money due to him. In addition to his veteran minimum salary, Collins will see about $3 million of his guaranteed money in this year's cap in the form of a signing bonus and prorated bonus. All-in-all, Collins received a $7.145 million signing bonus with a total of $10.1 million guaranteed on the two year deal.
The Browns have an option bonus attached to his contract as well that comes due on the third day of the 2026 league year. This means the Browns can opt to cut Collins with just $3 million in guarantees that they are on the hook for in 2026 if it does not pan out this season.
They will then split the remaining $10 money owed to Collins over the next four void years should he see his contract through. If the Browns opt to cut Collins after just one year, those four years would accelerate into two years after the 2025 season.
