The Cleveland Browns signed offensive guard Teven Jenkins a week ago in NFL free agency, and we now know what the details of his contract entail.
The deal is a one-year deal for the former second-round pick for just over $3 million. The Browns are guaranteeing Jenkins, a player with a laundry list of injuries, the majority of that deal. Jenkins gets about $2.7 million in guaranteed money in this deal.
The Browns will be taking on the veteran minimum cap hit on Jenkins, however, adding void years to the back end of his contract to spread out his cap hit. To do so, the Browns are eating just $300,000 a year over the next four years in void years. This will accelerate into a dead cap hit in 2026 of only $1.2 million unless the Browns re-sign him after the end of the season.
Given the age of Joel Bitonio, who has announced he will be back for his 12th season, and the contract status of Wyatt Teller, there is a real chance that Jenkins could hang around in Cleveland beyond 2025. For now, he gets his shot as a utility player to fill in for the role left when James Hudson III signed with the New York Giants.
The money here indicates no big shakeup is to be expected along the starting unit of the offensive line.
