So they pick up some guy in the 5th round next year. Guys like Swope are a dime a dozen.

Then that's "additional resources." Burning a 5th round pick on Brandon Johnson didn't kill us, but burning a ton of low-round picks on guys who don't turn into anything (Lance Mitchell, Buster Davis, Quan Sturdivant, etc.) eventually adds up to a problem.

A problem that you have to fix with a 2nd round pick for a guy who would be a 2-down player.

Not really. How many guys taken after the 4th ever amount to anything? Not just for Arizona but for every team. Heck you can get guys like Swope as UDFAs.

How much draft capital did the Cards use on Jerheme Urban? Swopes no better.

You're right, you can get them all the time. It's not one late-round pick that hurts you, it's a whole bunch of late-round picks that kill you after a few years.

As I said, busting out on six years worth of late-round ILBs lead us to overpaying Stewart Bradley, then having to keep Paris Lenon around at four times the cost of a late-round pick, then having to spend a second-round pick because we didn't have anyone in the pipeline.

That kind of stuff happens all the time. Yes, you can pin your hopes to a guy like Jarious Byrd, but the Cards drafted 8 wide receivers since we drafted Fitz, and only 2 of them are going to be on the active roster.

You don't get better putting undrafted free agents in the position to have to play football for you.

But my point is that late round picks almost never pan out for any team. So if you are counting on those guys contributing you'd better have the phone number of a moving company handy.

It's why I don't completely buy into building through the draft. You just don't have enough 1-4 picks to go that way 100%.

Someone obviously knew...he was projected to be taken in earlier rounds (3-4) of the draft from what I recall by many.

I'm not buying the fact nobody from the Cards camp knew nothing about potential concussion issues in the age of scouting!!!

Guess this is what happens when you take on an Aggie or a Sooner on you're roster ;)

I'm sure they did know of his concussion background that, nonetheless, did not keep him out of any games. They took a calculated risk late in the draft and, less we forget, this has to play itself out.

'knew anything not nothing'

Not much draft capital but Jerjeme "Anti-Clutch" Urban used up all my patience capital.

Loathed Urban when he was on this team.

If Jerheme "the juggler" ever catches a ball cleanly, it will be the first time. He should have been a volley ball player because he was pretty good at setting the ball up for the next guy.
