Bruce Arians halts practice, makes Cardinals run sprints after brawl

According to Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official website, Arians brought a halt to practice and made his entire team run sprints after a large group of players began to scrap near the line of scrimmage.

The players were made to run six sprints from sideline to sideline before Arians angrily called the team back together before storming off the field. After a brief pause, the team resumed practice – without their head coach – and finished the workout.

the sprints were end of practice and the entire team was gassed, hunched over and worn down. He wanted them to sprint from sideline to sideline in 15 seconds.

As far as walking off, he made his point. Then the team kept practicing showing the leadership and maturity we have on this roster.

Not Sprints, Gassers. Sideline to sideline, back and forth then back again, 160 yards equals one gasser. 15 second rest period in between. Cromartie had to yell at guys half way through not to put their hands on their knees bent over. DL coach Breston Buckner had to actually hold up a player and run with him the last gasser, didn't see who it was. It was not weak at all.

I do not think it is lame, JMHO.

You are there to coach, and practice. Arians is a busy man with a lot of stuff to do, not to mention limitations on the time he can practice his players.

These are professionals, and they are wasting his time, if they are going to waste time then they can do it without him, and he will go do one of the billion things he needs to do to make the organization better while the players continue to play grab ass no less then 48 hrs before he made an example and tried to drive home the point that the behavior will not be permitted. Which is also disrespectful toward the coach, by the way.

Wanna be a tough guy ? Then show it out on the field against an opponent, because doing in practice while other players think they are in practice mode is not impressing anyone.

Been there, done that in my coaching career. It may not be the way some would handle it, but trust me, Arians, the coach, does not care what you, I or anyone thinks. Its his team, and his name is one it.

......at least that is the way I see it. As you said tho, to each his own.

Best thing that came out of it, leaders kept the team on the field, and finished practice. That is a moral booster, and cements captains and team leaders....at least that is what I have seen happen in the past with my experiences...each team is different.

I think BA has the respect of the team in such a way that walking away in disappointment would really hit them deep where they needed to get hit. That and it was possibly a good chance to let the veteran leadership on the team take the reigns.

I am liking the Cromartie signing more and more, wish we had signed him to more than a one year contract... hope we throw a little more cash on the table after this season if he works out :)

Love that he did this. I am an Arians fan, but this even moved him up even farther up on my list!

Great sound clip they played on the radio yesterday regarding Bruce Arians' stance against fighting:

"Because the first thing you do is break your hand. Might as well punch the wall. If you want to break your hand, break your hand. Now if you want to fight, I'll put boxing gloves on and you can fight your ass off. That's what Coach (Bear) Bryant used to do. If a guy got in a fight, he had 18-pound gloves -- they were not allowed to stop swinging."

:notworthy:

We all enact in our life usually what our mentors taught us, we act from experience of those we respected. I bet Arians approached this incident from one he looked up to in the past who would have acted similarly. If your professional players are acting like high school kids, then you walk off and make them run gassers... actions speak louder than words, you sure the hell are not going to go to them and say "now guys, stop this" lol
