Broncos | Plummer Expected to Sit
Thu, 1 Sep 2005 06:40:22 -0700

Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos QB Jake Plummer and the rest of the team's starters are not expected to play Friday evening, Sept. 2, when the Broncos visit the Arizona Cardinals. "I'd like to play them, but I think it's kind of sweet that I'm not because it's a nice reminder of where I am," Plummer said.

That doesn't bother me that much, not particularly a bad dig at us.

FYI on Jake I read something the other day interesting, he had offseason knee surgery and apparently it's still bothering him but the Broncos think it's actually HELPED him in camps and preseason. He took days off to rest the knee without throwing which helped his arm, and they say the injury has caused him to focus a lot more on footwork when he's throwing from the pocket and he's had a fabulous preseason in part because of that.

Initially they were concerned because so much of their offense revolves around moving Jake to where he's most effective, but apparently the knee has made him more effective in the pocket so they're not moving him as much.

Interesting to see how it carries over to the real games.

I'd much rather play him at the end of the year in the SuperBowl.

Same story every year. Great Camp, work on footwork, lots of film and homework. Blah, Blah, Blah.

And inside the pocket is where he makes most of his mistakes and where he is the the least effective.

When will Shannys experiment to make Plummer a pocket passer end. He is a scrambler who should be on bootlegs and roll outs more times then not.

Excuse me while I get rid of these swine sailing through the air.

lol.

The day Plummer is a pocket passer and a good one I will run around my office parking lot in just boxer shorts and tape it for everyone to enjoy or hurl as the case may be.

BTW, I am sure you just brought that up because it's interesting in a funny type way.

When Plummer wins as many playoff games with Denver (0) as he did with the Cardinals (1) then I might take him more seriously.

Plummer has stil been pretty good for the Bronco's; he is--something like--19-6 as starting QB.

No playoff wins, but much better than he was here.

He does still make the same mistakes he did as a rookie, but he is still a good QB...

The term good is only reserved for QB's who at the very least dont throw 20 INT's a year.

So did Ryan Leaf

Not as much as Plummer. Remember his contract was renegotiated with the Cardinals BIG time after his second year and then got Bowlen and Shanahan to bend over backwards on two different occasions......when they signed him in the 1st place and when they gave him the recent $6MM roster bonus.

I can't get upset with this quote, because it is not even clear what Jake is talking about or if he knows himself what he is talking about!

Does he mean playing in Denver or is he talking about his progress - having had a good preseason, or is he talking about being part of the 1st team that won't play against the Cardinals on Friday???

Ah, where are you Jake??? Nevermind, I don't really care!!!

Huh, have you watched Denver the last 2 years? They've not made any effort to make Jake a pocket passer quite the opposite they're moving him all over the place. They do run some empty backfield sets which seem to lead to a lot of his INT's (when there's no threat of a handoff defenses play pass surprisingly) but in general I think Shanahan's handled Jake BRILLIANTLY.

The claim in the article was Jake's surgery was the left knee and that's his plant leg. Before he was prone to throwing off his backfoot or without planting his leg(hello I was saying that in 1998!) and since the surgery he's so conscious of the knee, that he's actually planting and throwing better than he used to when he had no knee problems and got lazy with his footwork.

We'll see, he's had a fabulous preseason 23-35 323 yards 3 tds 0 picks 123.6 passer rating, to my recollection it's easily his best preseason, Jake seems to start slow every year, even his first year in Denver 3 picks in the opener, so to me this is the first time I recall his preseason performance being this good.

Jake's message was clear. "I'm number 1 here, I have nothing to prove by playing against my old team and as a result I don't have to". The only trouble is that he continues to underthrow the 10 yard slant into the sideline and have it regularly intercepted and returned for a TD.

Has he thrown such a pick for a TD the last 2 years? I know he had one against the Colts but that was a LB over the middle IIRC. The lefty one out of the endzone last year was not like that.

It's hard to say, I don't think Peter King picked him as MVP this year so that may explain the better preseason.

*This is a year old, so it is not including the 20 int season in 2004. At least he finally broke the 20 TD season mark last year.

Exactly....can we move on past this guy. BTW he also leads the league in left handed interceptions from a right handed QB....

This guy is the dumbest QB in quite some time.....he makes McCown look like a rhodes scholar

Also not noted above is the Bob Cousy behind the back pass move. Except Couz would have made the assist.

What did he say that was bad? He said he was happy being in the place he is. He is not playing because he is the starter. If he were playing he would be second string. Sounds like Plummer is in a good place to be to me. Get over your hypersensitivity to nonexistent slights. I swear some people are not happy unless things are stirred up like some kind of melodramatic soap opera. Watch day time TV or Terrell Owens if you need that.

If Warner has Plummer's numbers from last year the Big Red makes the playoffs this year. Plummer is a good QB who was not given the needed support in AZ. He had no running game except the one year they made the playoffs. No QB including Montana, Marino, Favre etc is any good without a running game. They also had no defense. The Cards sucked in those years except for 98. Get over it. There is plenty of blame to spread for those teams. When are you people going to get over Plummer? If you really want to think about past Cardinals think good thoughts like the 74 and 75 Cards that won the NFC East. You will live longer.

At the very least for the sake of decency can we stop the talk of how bad Plummer is and how much better off the Cards are without him untill the Cards have a QB with numbers better than Plummer? The way the QB position has been since Plummer left makes the criticism sound like sour grapes.

DID NOTHING,AS HAVE, MANY OTHERS, TO INCUR THIS CONTINUED HATE AND VILLIFYING. He's doing better now, good for him. He probably doesn't give a rats ass about the jerks who just keep trying to tear him down and the same jerks are dissin' McCown in the same sentence.
Give it a rest. The guy moved on, we've moved on. If any of you have in the past or can now play better than Plummer, step on up. Otherwise shutup and take his words for what they're worth. Nothing!
Pick on the Simeon Rices and Aneas Williams and Lomas Browns, to name a few, who have really dissed us.
The hate comes from thecsame two faced jerks that loved when we went to the playoffs and beat Dallas.
What a joke this is!
