FITZGERALD EYEBALLING ARIZONA EXIT?

Only two regular-season games into the Ken Whisenhunt era, rumors already are flying receiver Larry Fitzgerald is looking to leave the Cardinals when his rookie contract ends.

Fitzgerald, as the rumor goes, is not a big fan of Whisenhunt's run-based offense, and for good reason. Fitzgerald currently is averaging only five catches and 53.5 yards per game, which puts him on pace for 80 receptions and 856 receiving yards for the season. He currently has no receiving touchdowns in 2007.

There's no indication that Fitzgerald, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2004 draft, plans to try to force his way out prematurely. Based on the escalators in his rookie contract, there was speculation when it was signed that the Cardinals would likely have to extend the deal after four seasons. Since this is Fitzgerald's fourth season, and given that it's hard to justify two highly-paid wideouts (Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin) if the offense doesn't take full advantage of both of their skills, it could be time for the Cardinals to think about trading Fitzgerald.

One potential destination would be Minnesota, given that Fitzgerald is a native of Minneapolis and worked as a ball boy during the days of Cris Carter and Randy Moss. Though plenty of folks are murmuring about the Vikes possibly sniffing around Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, we think it makes more sense for the Vikes try to bring Fitzgerald home.

Especially if the team wants to sell out the Metrodome on a regular basis.

They are equating an awful game by Leinart as proof he is leaving. Let's see what his averages are after 5 or 6 games and then we'll talk.

Also, where is the source of this rumor?

Also, Fitz is not going to sell out a stadium.

After 2 games? And last game he had over 80 yards. I'm not saying it's not true, but the rationale given is suspect.

And why would he want to go to Minnesota--he won't get too many catches there either since Jackson throws about 5 picks a game.

I'm not going to worry about a rumor after 2 games about 1 of our stars. If the program is winning this year IMO Larry would be less likely to go anywhere.

Does this look like a guy who isn't happy with the team?

That’s funny, they think he is on a pace for an 80/856 season. The way I look at the numbers is a little different.

The 1st game he went 3/20 and the 2nd he went 7/87. Now that is a 233% increase in receptions per game and a 435% increase in yards. So if he keeps up at that pace I see him ending up with a 1,740,000 reception 98,135,000,000 yard season; shattering all previous records.

Unfortunately he still we be held without a touchdown and many darksiders will be calling for his release.

Now that is an excellent use of statistics DK!

I think Jake would be a good number 3 QB for the Cards right now.

I don't mind reading PFT but this is the kind of stuff that pisses me off.

This guy spends too much time creating his own "rumors", hoping that one or two will stick and he can say "he is an insider".

He is not doing anything anybody else couldn't get a domain and do.

It would be better if he at least had a section of "his predictions" vs "rumors".

If not, he should just rename the site....profootballbs.

big deal. if we had our top 3 recievers be Boldin, Johnson, Morency we have our deep threat, YAC short slant/screen reciever, and a dependable good route running white guy... sounds perfect to me. Then we put Trannon on the field in the redzone instead of Morency for toss ups that fitz used to be good at.

Trade Fitz for another corner or maybe even a great FS and we have a team. We all k
now Boldin is better than Fitz. I am not saying I dont like Fitz, because I love him. But if he wants out, there is no reason to have two probowl caliber wrs in this system, when Boldin obviously fits better in the system.

I'd trade Fitz for Champ Bailey. Anyone else would have to include a pick.

PFT is a joke...

...however, there will probably come a point in time where the Cards have to decide on who to keep among the top paid guys (Fitz, Boldin, Leinart, Wilson, possibly Dansby) and my bet is one would be SOL. Even though the cap continues to rise, there will likely be a point where a difficult decision will be made.
