cable modem question

i am getting ready to sign up for cox high speed internet. i'm looking for cable modems on ebay and was wondering if the actual modem effects the internet performance. cox has a list of compatible modems, should i just find the cheapest one or are there differences.

I bought a Toshiba PCX2200 for around a hundred bucks from Best Buy a couple of years ago and haven't had a single problem.
I would go with a name product but that is just me.
I would definitely buy as opposed to renting theirs.

I recommend the motorola surfboard modems. They are pretty solid and can be had for about 50 bucks on Ebay

I have used a D-link modem for years.

I don't think the brand matters much.

Just get a name brand and get one with the connection type you want to use. (USB and/or ethernet)
