Weird game, i was switching back and forth with USC/ND. Lynch had a nice first half but then had 2 late fumbles that OSU recovered. Apparently prior to the game Lynch had told the trainer the new brace over his cast on his left hand didn't fit well and he was having trouble holding the ball, both fumbles he was fighting for yardage and the ball was ripped out by an OSU defender.

They reported during the game that at the half Lynch was livid, furious at himself, and demanded they take the brace off, the trainer refused, and Lynch went and got a pair of scissors and was trying to cut the brace off when he was stopped. TEdford benched him for the 2nd half. The official story in the paper is Tedford said you can't fumble, he was benched because he fumbled, no mention of the brace, but they talked about that during the game.

Without Lynch Cal couldn't run, started to throw and then Joe Ayoob came into play. you've never seen a guy throw more moon balls than Ayoob, he put WAY too much air under his deep throws. He had some really nice throws but he is just horribly inconsistent, completed 1 of his last 12, 2 picks plus a 3rd for a TD the LB dropped. Also had a fumble lost.

The injuries continue to pile up Cal lost their LT, best DT, and freshman WR DeSean Jackson was playing one handed the 4th quarter after hurting his shoulder trying to make a diving catch in the endzone.

Big loss it's a team Cal should handle quite easily but didn't. The injuries are starting to hurt but I really think the whole problem is Ayoob, Cal's offense is based on certain things and one of them is when the TE is wide open 8 yards downfield the QB can't overthrow him by 8 yards, which Ayoob did 3 times yesterday. They get a lot of mismatches they exploit, but Ayoob just hasn't been able to make the throws.

Looks like a tough 2nd half of the season with all the injuries unless Ayoob turns it around.

Cal is a great example of how important QB play is in the Pac-10. Ayoob is awful, only Kovalsuck's incompetence allows him not to get the award for crappiest QB in the Pac. Thankfully I don't have to deal with the latter's BS anymore.

Russ - I have a question for you. You're a UCLA fan in basketball but you speak all the time of Cal in football. Is that due to your proximity to Berkeley or do you have split allegiances?

Good question, because I live closer to Berkeley, and Jason Kidd I guess when Kidd was at Cal I became a fan and sort of stuck. But for some odd reason I now prefer Cal football to hoops. When UCLA plays cal in hoops no question I want UCLA to win, when they play Cal in football, to be honest I'm almost 50/50 and this year I was actually disappointed Cal lost.

I really like what Tedford has done at Cal I mean he took over a team that was 1-10 and now they're in Bowl games every year, last team to beat USC, a legit quality team year after year.

Yes Ayoob is horrible, gotta be driving Tedford nuts he's such a QB perfectionist and here he's coaching a guy who misses wide open WR's every game. They've already talked about 4 times this year where Jackson was wide open for a TD and Ayoob floated a moon ball that got nowhere near Jackson. He'll make a throw that looks great and you think ok he's finally settling down, and then he'll overthrow guys by 10 yards and you think you're watching a freshman in highschool or something. He's just killing Cal they should be unbeaten despite all the injuries but when you have a QB who 3 separate times has had a streak of at least 9 straight incompletions, it's hard to keep your offense going.
