I'm pretty damn excited. I don't think we're very good, but it's MNF, first home game of the year against one of the highest profile teams in all sports. This early in the season, when anything can happen, if you can't get up for this game, that passion must not burn red in your blood.

For starters, when I was a kid both the Giants and Jets played in NY proper. #2, they play in NJ and yet keep NY. #3, The Eagles have been the team for South Jersey since they were founded. Philadelphia is 45 minutes to an hour away depending from where you're coming from. East Rutherford is about 2 1/2 hours a way(and a nightmare to get to on game days). And after a decade of abuse as a Card fan, I believe I've earned my fandom.

Following Solar and your post, I guess I need to expand my thought a little.

I believe that sports teams contribute more than just entertainment to an area. They also contribute in a significant way to the local economy; and also can be a factor to encourage local pride. So in supporting the local team one is supporting the area in which they live.

That said, I don't have any problem with people maintaining loyalties to other teams. But just as you don't go into your neighbors home and spit on the floor, you shouldn't go into an area's home stadium and be obnoxious in your support of the home team's opponent. And further in those times when your "favorite" team isn't playing the home team, you should want to see the home team have success, because it is good for the city or area in which you have made your home.

Not sure if I am making my point, but it has to do with having local pride. This may be an old-fashioned concept, I don't know. But it is a concept to which I adhere.

All the time. Got beer thrown on me in 1987. In 2015 I even wore a Card Santa hat. If I can find it, there's a picture of me and the guys my dad had season tickets with in my Neil Lomax jersey on the front page of my local paper(when I had hair to boot). As a kid I had a Cardinal overcoat. Owned a Starter jacket. Countless hats. Had a Cardinal wind up alarm clock too. I've worn my Cardinal fandom on my sleeve. And I've never been ashamed to wear my Cardinal gear in public.

I've been to many Eagles games over the years and the closest Eagle gear I've ever worn were a green hat and shirt that says Dallas Sucks.

Or maybe it's just because I had no expectations coming into the season... I don't know. I'm just excited to go to a game again for the first time in ten months.

My best friend who has seats with me were talking about this a lot recently and our approach is going to be just to enjoy the experience. Remember how much fun 2013 was? That's how we are going to look t it - game to game. No point in getting wrapped up in expectations. If the team can do what they should do, then it will make it all that much more enjoyable.

I think as I get older, I just cherish the opportunity to go to a game with my pop, mom and brother (or brothers if Ouchie comes back also for the game)... meet up with my best friend and his father (who we used to carpool with to every game from the first M,NF game against Dallas on Yom Kippur back in 1988 up through graduating from high school in 1994) in the red zone for a beer pre-game.

I look at these games as making memories now. I went to two games last year, one was the 6-6 OT ugh-fest... which was in retrospect hilarious how awful that game was and how much everyone there was tortured and the Saints game where i got to see Calais' last game. Sure, I would MUCH RATHER have watched us WIN both of those games and my memories of the wins are usually much more ridiculous, but the events an event, regardless.

I also wonder if people who have been going to games for a loooooooong time start taking them for granted, starting to ignore how truly lucky they are to be going to events that a lot of people can only dream of. I have a Pats friend... die-hard, who lives out in LA who is always MASSIVELY jealous of me whenever I go to games here, because he never has the opportunity or the money to go to a Pats game. Going to a football game is a pretty special event... even this week where it's gonna be probably 60/40, maybe even a 50/50 fan split, which yes, sucks on the one hand,but on the other will make this feel like a damn college bowl game, which is fun in it's own way. Don't get me wrong... I wish that place was going to be a uniform sea of red like it was during that Eagles 2008 NFC Title game where it felt like my ears were going to explode from the noise, but if it's not, might as well look forward to making the best of the situation.

I understand that. I went to nearly every game all the way through the first year at UOP... then I had to move out of state and have not attended a game since. It suxx azz... I miss it, the tailgating, yelling on third down,...the atmosphere,..the raw energy of the crowd when our offense is on a roll. I live in norcal now and plan to stay here now as long as my mother is alive. But when the time comes I plan to move back to the desert... not for weather, or friends per se... but for Cardinal football, lol. I want my season tickets back

Agreed. My dad isn't a Cardinals fan, he's actually a long-time Redskins fan, but he's sucked up his pride since 2004 and we go to most of the games together. It's father-son time that one day I'm going to look back on and cherish, because you don't really get to spend all that much time in life 1:1 with your pop if you're most people. I'm lucky to have a weekend to get away, talk about the game, have a few beers, carry him back to the hotel drunk when he drinks too many shots... that kind of thing.

Most people can't afford these experiences or the time off, and I'm extremely lucky to have the ability to do so.

That's basically how I've approached these games ever since the team moved here.

I was a teenager riding my bike up to the gates without a ticket yet I managed to get into every game at SDS that first year. The next few years were the same but more tickets came from friends than scalpers. When my girlfriend/now wife entered the picture in 1993 we decided that the games would be what we would spend our "vacation" money on and we got season tickets in the south endzone - section 37...bleacher seats. So many great memories and friendships from our SDS days. Still in touch with many of the people we sat around or met at those games - and that's before smart phones and social media sites existed. The ASFN halftime meets were epic back then with large groups meeting up and talking well into most 3rd quarters. UOP has been more of the same. New building, new friends, but we still run into many of the diehards we knew from SDS. Many friends have since passed on but it feels like they are right there with us when we are watching the Cards on the field or gathering at the half to check in with other ASFN'ers.

Wouldn't have missed these experiences for anything. Life is too short. Get out there and live it. Go Cards !!!

I try to make the trip over a couple times a year but this year I'll only make the Giant game at Christmas. I've made several friends at UofP and my wife and I always have a ball there. Best thread ever about Cowboy game tailgating is the Brazilian Ax Murderer... Good times!!! lol

It's father-son time that one day I'm going to look back on and cherish, because you don't really get to spend all that much time in life 1:1 with your pop if you're most people. I'm lucky to have a weekend to get away, talk about the game, have a few beers, carry him back to the hotel drunk when he drinks too many shots... that kind of thing.

My son and I make an annual road trip every year (sometimes more than one). The times we have together are priceless, and now that he has a son, it will become three generation's of cards fans going to the game. I wouldn't trade a minute I get to spend with my son, win, lose, or draw.

PS we've never seen a draw, a few wins and several losses. 21 (22 if you count SDS) different stadiums after we head to Philly in a few weeks. Besides who else am I going to take and make carry my bags...
