Well, Cam Ward isn't setting his expectations for himself low.
"I just think what I expect out of my career is to be one of the best quarterbacks to ever put it on," said Ward, the new Tennessee Titans quarterback, shortly after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. "That’s the aspiration that I’ve had since I was a kid. As long as I work hard, keep being a good teammate and keep believing in God I believe it’ll work out for me."
The Titans made Ward the first pick in the draft a little bit after 7 p.m. on April 24, setting him up as the franchise's quarterback of the future. The Titans say they're clearly convicted in Ward; general manager Mike Borgonzi said the pick wouldn't have been made if there wasn't immense conviction, and the consensus on making the pick was about three weeks ago.
Coach Brian Callahan also says he's excited to coach Ward, with Ward possessing so many of the traits that make quarterbacks great. Despite this, he's not committing to calling Ward his starting quarterback quite yet.
"We don’t need to worry about that until September," Callahan said when asked if Ward will arrive in Nashville on April 25 as the starter. "I think he’s got a lot of work to do and we’re going to do the requisite work but I don’t think we need to get into naming starters and talking about all that. He’s got his work ahead of him and we’ll get to naming starters in September."
Ward seems ready to go to work too. When asked how he'll celebrate being picked No. 1 overall, he says he'll go back to his hotel room, pack up and get ready for his flight to Nashville.
