If Randy can't return it sure would be nice to have him step up and not have to deal young talent for another starter for the stretch run. Would you rather see him step into the rotation or Edgar or Enrique Gonzalez?

He was our Minor League Pitcher of the Year 2 yrs in a row. Him & Petit are probably our best options to replace Johnson and Hernandez if necessary.

Nippert has so far been unable to tap into his potential, and I'd almost go as far as calling him a bust. He looked REALLY bad last year in limited time, and average this year.

However, tonight may have been a turning point. Most young players have a "moment" where they finally turn it around and become a major leaguer. I think Nippert may have had his tonight. He was absolutely dealing. His stuff is incredible. If he can gain control of it he'll be a fantastic pitcher.

I'd like to see him get a start here and there when the bullpen is fresh so he's only relied on for 5-6 innings and then can have cruz, pena, lyon and valverde come in to polish it off. In the mean time he should get more time in relief to see if tonight was the real deal or not

Nippert needs to add another pitch. His fastball is awesome but it would be so much more dominating if he added a slider or a change up.
