Hockey Canada revealed its 25-player roster for the IIHF Women’s World Championship on Friday.
The team — with 14 forwards, eight defenders and three goalies — is headlined by captain Marie-Philip Poulin, of course. But there are several new faces for Canada at a major international competition, with forwards Daryl Watts, Hannah Miller and Jennifer Gardiner, defenders Sophie Jaques and teen phenom Chloe Primerano, and goalie Ève Gascon all making their first world championship roster.
Canada’s 2025 roster includes 17 players from the gold medal–winning team at 2024 worlds in Utica, N.Y., with six players making their tournament debuts and one getting back in the mix before the Milan Olympics.
“With less than a year to go until the 2026 Olympics, this is our final opportunity to face a number of opponents and compete at the highest level as part of our preparation,” said Canada’s general manager Gina Kingsbury. “We are excited about the team we have assembled to contend for a gold medal while also looking long-term on the road to Milan.”
Canada’s No. 1 goalie, Ann-Renée Desbiens, is on the roster after leaving a game for the Montreal Victoire on Tuesday. Sarah Nurse, who has been out for the Toronto Sceptres since Feb. 1, is also listed to play for Canada.
The 10-team tournament will begin on April 9 in České Budějovice, Czechia. Canada opens the tournament on April 9 against Finland at 1 p.m. ET.
Forwards (14): Laura Stacey, Sarah Fillier, Brianne Jenner, Sarah Nurse, Natalie Spooner, Emily Clark, Emma Maltais, Marie-Philip Poulin, Hannah Miller, Blayre Turnbull, Kristin O’Neill, Danielle Serdachny, Jennifer Gardiner, Daryl Watts
Defence (8): Sophie Jaques, Jocelyne Larocque, Chloe Primerano, Renata Fast, Ella Shelton, Erin Ambrose, Micah Zandee-Hart, Claire Thompson
Goalies (3): Ève Gascon, Ann-Renée Desbiens, Kristen Campbell
