From What I have been reading and seen in other post, we were fairly cap tight this year.. Which has been the reason I beleive that we havent been to active in FA. Does anyone have a idea what our cap space that we might have next year and possibly more active player in FA upgrade this team even more.

The cap itself is expected to go up pretty significantly next year. As for our specific team, it depends on a few things. What we do with CC is a big one. Based on what some other DEs have been getting, I'd expect his cap hit is going to be about as high as the franchise tag if not higher.

Fitz has a 10 mill option bonus next year on top of his 5 mill salary.
Toler will need a new contract if we are going to keep him.
DWash will be on the last year of his deal and we'll want to re-up him before then if we want to avoid Dansby 2.0.

We do have a lot more flexibility though. Rhodes and ADub are both on the last year of their deals next year. Cutting Kolb becomes much more of a cap saving and less of a cap hit.

Said it before, will say it again, we need to handle DWash sooner than later.

As said above, want to avoid a Dansby situation. DWash will demand, and deserves, to get paid. Hes our man on that defense. We are strapped for cash and he has a pay day coming. Graves and management better start making plans now.

Be a frign riot if we lose him

A story on nfl.com reports that the NFLPA expects a significant increase in the CAP in 2014, and not next year. Robert Kraft, who was involved in last year's contract negotiations doesn't forsee any large bump. He's stating that the increases will be gradual. The truth is probably somewhere in between. I was hoping that the bump, if there is to be a bump would happen in 2013.

Already worried about next years cap? That is a long ways away and a million variables yet to take place.

Aren't there some estimates out there that it could go up by as much as $30 million? That is the number that keeps sticking in my mind, but I can't recall the source.

As usual after looking it up It's more confusing than if I didn't bother. This article indicates the cap increases is set for 2014, but it also believes it's not going to jump near as much as reports are stating. Anyways if you want to be more confused than you were before, go ahead and read it.

No thanks! The one thing I don't need any help on is how to be confused. I seem to do very well at that on my own!:D

Don't people get paid big money by NFL teams to worry about next year's salary cap as it can impact current contract negotiations? Seems like it would be rather foolish to completely ignore it because it is a long way away.

Considering they dont even know what the cap will be in 2013 or who will even in on the final 53 man roster, its all just guess work. They didn't even know what this years cap was going to be until 1 day before free agency.

But that's true of 1000's of things businesses deal with all the time. Doesn't stop them from doing analysis to try to get an educated guess as to what the outcome will be. And the winners are usually the ones who spend the time and money and make the best guess.

So I don't see people just blowing it off because they won't know what the actual cap is until a day before free agency.

I'm sure the Cards are looking ahead at CAP consequences. Any smart business would do so and when it comes to finances, the Cardinal organization is pretty sharp.

I think what Joe is referring to are fans trying to figure out CAP ramifications without having the knowledge or actual facts to do so. No use to get upset until the facts are made known.

Have we somehow mismanaged our CAP? How do we end up in what looks like CAP hell while some teams who are not bad teams have $30-$40 million in CAP space? If we had a large group of all-stars I might understand. I clearly do not understand the CAP system. I see Jerry Jones and one other team were fined for trying manipulate the CAP so the system must be rather complex if you can manipulate it. I read somewhere that some teams hire a specialist in handling the teams CAP. I hope Rod Graves is not our CAP specialist. I would guess you have to be able to look down the road a few years to properly manage the CAP to your best advantage.

1. When you see a team with enormous CAP space; ask yourself how many players they have under contract?

2. We have a CAP specialist like every other team.

3. We were above the CAP mainly due to the balloon payment due to Levi Brown, which was removed with his release. We've re-signed our key FA's or found adequate replacement; released some dross and re-structured one contract.

4. We are not in CAP Hell!!!!!!

But Dallas and especially Washington are. They spent too much on salaries in 2010 the uncapped year. Now they both have to put at least half the amount the league determined was over and beyond what the majority of the teams spent. They were warned by the league not to over flaunt the cap, despite the uncapped yr. Now 35 Mil will go against the Redskins existing cap this season. For Dallas it's about 10 M. The cap for this yr. was set a 120.6 M up from 113 M.
