Texans – Clowney (DE) - They want too much for the pick so they stay put and take the generational talent.
Rams - Watkins (WR) - Special player who will be able to help Bradford immediately. Sure the Rams a invested a lot of draft capital at the WR position but none of them are difference makers, Watkins is.
Jaguars – Mack (OLB) – Jags have a bunch of needs but LT isn’t one of them. Since it’s just Mack and Robinson left out of the Uber elite players then it’s any easy choice.
Browns – Robinson (LT) – LT isn’t a screaming need but it can be upgraded and Robinson is the last planet person in this draft.
Raiders -*TRADE*- Rams – Mathews (LT) – Rams have the ammo to move up, they are in the toughest division in the NFL and need to improve the trenches. DL is very good and their LT tore is ACL so they need to make sure they are covered. Mathews has played both LT & RT very well, he has ties to Fisher and the bloodlines are impeccable. Raiders need a ton so they acquire more picks: Rams 13th , pick 45th (2nd rd), 188 (6th rd), 241 (7th rd).
Falcons – Lewan (LT) – They really wanted to trade up for Clowney but the price was ridiculous and honestly they needed a LT more. Dimitroff is mad because he likes to be the high roller and Snead out played him.
Bucs – Manziel (QB) – Most pundits project Evans here but it’s a deep WR class and they believe they need a QB. This is one of those markets where selling more tickets is needed.
Vikings – Donald (DT) – Jared Allen has moved on so they need a ton of help along the Dline and pass rush. Donald will provide said pass rush which can only help the 32 ranked D from last year.
Bills – Evans (WR) – Thrilled that Evans has slipped this far and WR is a very big need they take him even though Martin (OT) was still available.
Lions – Gilbert (CB) – Rumored to having wanted Watkins they came to their senses because of the price and they have bigger needs. CB seems to be a need every year for them and the best CB is still available so they make the smart choice.
Titans – Barr (OLB) – Whiz likes to build a Defense and he isn’t thrilled with any of the QB’s in this draft. Hopefully Whiz has a long term plan for QB and learned his lesson in Arizona. Pass rushers only slip so far and Barr’s lack of experience doesn’t outweigh his athleticism and what he has already shown on tape.
Giants – Martin (OT) – Manning had his worst year ever and it’s because the Oline was hot garbage. This won’t be the only pick for the Oline either. Great thing is Martin can play any position on the Oline so it allows Reese to grab BPA for the Oline on day 2 at any position because Martin is so flexible.
Raiders – Carr (QB) – They have loved Carr from the get go and now they take him where he isn’t such a big reach.
Bears –*TRADE* Jets – Beckham (WR) Jets have a ton of picks and desperately need WR help. Ebron could be an option here as well but I don’t think he fits in with ground and pound (doesn’t block well).Bears get the Jets # 18 pick, 80 (2nd rd), #115 (4th rd). They over pay because there was a bidding war as the 49ers were trying to trade up as well.
Steelers – Dennard (CB) – They probably would have taken Beckham which is why the Jets and 9ers were courting the Bears. At this point Ebron had to be considered but the Steelers D is getting old and slow fast and Dennard has that Steeler spirit in him, loves to play physical and can play man, zone or off.
Cowboys – Shazier (LB) – JJ is all bummed out because Manziel is gone and he wanted that spotlight even if it was just to trade the pick. Cowboys O is stacked but their D needs a bunch of help. With Ware moving on and the late buzz about Shazier JJ uses his normal drafting prowess and reaches. Thing is Shazier can play and will help them somewhere.
Ravens – Ebron (TE) – Ozzie always seems to have superb talent fall to him. Pita is coming off an freakish injury and Flacco absolutely needs more weapons.
Bears - Mosley (LB) – Bears D is gawd awful, is it a coincidence that it fell off a cliff when Urlacher retired? Mosley may be just as good an athlete and leader, get a Safety on day 2. Nice move by Emery picking up extra picks and getting the player he wanted anyway.
Dolphins –*TRADE*- 49ers - Cooks (WR) – Baalke has a ton of picks and needs to give Kap… another weapon. Hickey wants out of the 19th pick because the obvious need is OT and he doesn’t have the ammo to move up and Moses etc. are reaches at this point. Dolphins get the 49ers #31 & 61st (2nd rd) picks.
Cards -*TRADE*- Texans – Bortles (QB) – Smith knows he needs a QB and Bortles is O’Briens’ type. The Packers and Eagles don’t want to move back and the Browns very well may take a QB and Keim has let it be known he will move back. Cards get the Texans 33rd pick (rd2) & 65th (rd3).
Packers – Clinton-Dix (FS) – Their D is horrid and he’s the best value that fills a huge need.
Eagles – Lee (WR) – I would wait to get a WR but believe Chip wants to take care of his O first and WR is a big need. Fuller (CB) or Pryor (FS) would have been my choice.
Chiefs – Fuller (CB) – Big need and great value. I actually think Reid would like to trade back, he loves moving around in the draft so if I had more time I’d figure out a possible move.
Bengals – Roby (CB) – This is really the only need on a very good D so expect them to fill that quickly. Plus Brown is drawn to troubled players like a moth to a flame so this had to be the pick.
Chargers – Jernigan (DT) – Both trenches need help and this is the best value that fills a need.
Browns – Bridgewater (QB) – Farmer is not going to wait and hope that Teddy is available later. They need someone to develop behind Hoyer and Teddy has done everything really well except for his pro day.
Saints – Nix (NT) – Need to keep helping Ryan with talent since the O is in very good shape.
Panthers – Benjamin (WR) – Not sure they will take a WR since they seem to be allergic to them…. LT is a need but this WR is a better value at this point and they will need to take another one at some point.
Patriots – Amaro (TE) – Obvious replacement for Hernandez and Gronk keeps getting injured so they need to add a TE or two in this draft. Bellicheat does need to help his D but is wagon is firmly hitched to Brady so they need to get him a weapon. Trade down is possible…
Dolphins – Moses (OT) – Hickey’s move pays off and he gets his man. The Oline still needs some help but they now have their bookend OT’s and can get the OG position addressed later in the draft.
Broncos – James (OT) – Elway witnessed his Oline get manhandled so he needs to do more to protect Manning.
Seahawks – Hageman (DT) – They last several Dlineman during FA and they love to rotate them in. Carol believes he can motivate anyone so Hageman is the pick.
Projecting picks is incredibly hard but to add in the draft factor is borderline crazy. Thing is trades will happen to I included several in my Mock.
Feedback welcomed.
