Mike Jurecki

#AZCardinals Michael Bidwill speaking to the Sporting News Alex Marvez regarding them trying to find the next QB.

I wonder which veteran QB he could be referring to in the future.

-------------------------------------

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go after a veteran. They want to avoid the learning curve of a new young QB, IMHO.

Double sigh. In the time between KW and CP, their choices have not been stellar.

Mission accomplished. Between Arians, Keim and Michael now, nobody has any idea what we are going to do in the draft. Neither of them have told a lie but none have shown where the half truths lead... this is the draft, where you can believe what they say but not usually towards the objective your thought lol

Smoke and mirrors.

I do wonder if Cutler's price comes down that the team pursues him as a backup.

Michael makes sense - some teams (like the current Cards) are better at discovering/signing a FA QB than they are drafting one. Others are better drafters. Some are better traders than cherrypickers. And, since, front offices and coaches change over time, this dynamic can change from regime to regime.

And since the Cards have struck oil with Kurt Warner and Carson Palmer, they may feel more comfortable repeating what's succeeded in the past.

Smoke? Mirrors? Maybe. Maybe not. (Perhaps telling the truth is, heh heh, this year's smokescreen)

Maybe Kaepernick as a backup with a chance to become a starter next season?

I know, nobody wants him.

Agreed.

But, if you look at some teams like the Browns, Dolphins, Jets, and the Bears, its not like drafting QB's is not a 100% fail safe strategy.

Finding a QB in the NFL is all about "Get'r Dun!" Don't care how it happens as long as it does.

I am a HUGE proponent of trying to get Teddy Bridgewater from the Vikings, yet I understand I am in the vast minority with that opinion......vast minority being myself, and that is about it. LOL

Dolphins don't belong here.

He is the guy perfect for our system, but Detroit won't let him go.

Im surprised they haven't extended him. its his last year. They will have to franchise him or give him a monster deal. If he does not win a playoff game this year, I wont be surprised that he is available.

That would be a disaster. I think people are so blinded by the two times we've struck gold in the past decade that they don't remember that we've spent nearly 30 years in abject poverty otherwise.

More could be said about the franchises ability to either locate, draft, or coach QBs in those same 30 years. (or lack thereof) Maybe they truly have no clue on how to do that.

The Cardinals need to leave no stone uncovered when looking for Carson Palmers replacement. I don't care if it is through the draft or if it is bringing in another Veteran QB.

I personally think that the Cards will have better luck finding a QBOTF by signing a Veteran QB over drafting one. Actually I would prefer that they do both. I also don't like reaching for QBs in the draft.

If I had to roll dice on the likelihood the Cards would draft their next francise QB or locate a vet via trade or free agency, I think the odds would favor the vet route.

Not to say we shouldn't ever draft a QB, I just think the Cardinal mgt and coaching team is better at signing a vet QB than they are drafting one.

You gotta try drafting. Retreads won't always work out either. And generally they overpay. Maybe not right away but with less options they box themselves in a corner. Best solution is keep trying to develop young talent at the same time.
That means pretty much drafting one until you hit on the right one. Someone who can take the reigns successfuly in the event of injury or less than stellar season by the starter.

Currently, the following potential starting QBs are scheduled to be free agents in 2018:
Bortles
Bridgewater
Stafford
Bradford
Cousins
Garoppolo
McCarron
Derek Anderson

Haha, just seeing if you were paying attention on that last one.

Some, most, or perhaps all of them will be extended this season, but at the same time, some others may become available.

Aside from Stafford, some people will have their doubts about all of them. But unless the Cardinals think there's a good chance that one of the QBs in this year's draft will become a long-term starter, there's no sense in spending a #1 pick on a guy this year. One of the available veterans could be another short-term bridge to buy the Cardinals time to remain competitive while finding someone they like better in the draft (or developing a lower-round pick). Or, who knows, one of them could turn out to be the good enough to keep for the long term.
