Interesting. I wonder if this is Whiz finally losing faith in Grimm.
The Cardinals now have an outside linebackers coach. Ryan Slowik, previously the defensive quality control coach, has been promoted.
I noticed it when reading this blog entry from ESPN.com's Mike Sando, who compared the size of coaching staffs in the NFC. With 17 coaches, the Cardinals have three to four fewer than the other three teams. Slowik was listed as outside linebackers coach. Some intrepid reporting revealed that, yes, Slowik had been promoted. It just had not been announced. They have a relatively small staff by NFL standards. But small is not necessarily a bad thing. The Patriots have a smaller staff than the Cardinals. The Steelers' staff is similar size to the Cardinals' staff. Those two teams have done pretty well.
There was no immediate indication from the Cardinals if a new quality control coach would be hired, or if Slowik would continue doing those duties. Either way, it's a good move for Slowik, who joined the Cardinals in 2009. His father Bob is the Redskins' defensive backs coach.
