Cardinals Open 16th N.A.U. Training Camp

Tempe, Arizona — Arizona Cardinals’ Head Coach Dave
McGinnis and his new-look team, headlined by three
high-profile off-season free-agent acquisitions—running
back Emmitt Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher,
safety Dexter Jackson, most valuable player of Super
Bowl XXXVII last January, and strong-armed quarterback
Jeff Blake, an 11-year NFL veteran—open training camp
at Northern Arizona University (N.A.U.) on Friday, July
25 when all players report to Flagstaff for a 5 p.m.
dinner and evening meetings.
N.A.U. and Flagstaff will be the Cardinals’ summer home
for the 16th consecutive year.
The Cardinals will work in Flagstaff for 19 days this
summer, breaking camp on Wednesday, August 13 following
a morning practice. The 2 p.m. “Honeywell Cardinals
Red/White Scrimmage” on Saturday, August 2 in N.A.U.’s
Walkup Skydome highlights this year’s training camp.
Practice begins with two sessions on Saturday, July 26.
Morning practices start at 8:40 a.m. Afternoon
sessions are scheduled at 3:00 or 3:45 p.m. Fans can
obtain daily updated practice information by calling
two hotlines—602/379–1714 in Phoenix and 928/523–2273
in Flagstaff.
All Flagstaff practices, except the August 2 scrimmage,
are open to the public free of charge. N.A.U. will
charge admission to the “Honeywell Cardinals Red/White
Scrimmage.” Tickets ($8 reserved, $4 youngsters 12 and
under) are on sale through N.A.U. (928/523–5661).
Outdoor workouts are held on three practice fields east
of the Walkup Skydome. In the event of inclement
weather, workouts move inside the Walkup Skydome.
After opening the preseason against Smith’s former
Dallas club and first-year Cowboy Head Coach Bill
Parcells on Saturday, August 9 at Sun Devil Stadium,
the Cardinals return to Flagstaff for four more days of
work before breaking camp on August 13.
The Cardinals will maintain a modified training-camp
schedule in the Valley after August 13 that will
include mid-morning, late afternoon, and evening
practices at the Cards’ south Tempe training facility.
Preseason Games —- The Cardinals open their four-game
preseason schedule at home against Dallas at 7 p.m. on
Saturday, August 9, then travel to San Diego for an 7
p.m. August 16 meeting with the Chargers. Arizona
returns to Sun Devil Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. encounter
with the Chicago Bears on Friday, August 22 before
concluding the preseason at Minnesota at 7 p.m. (5 p.m.
Phoenix time) on Thursday, August 28.
The Cards open the regular season at 1 p.m. (10 a.m.
Phoenix time) on Sunday, September 7 at Ford Field
against Detroit.
Kickoff Luncheon — -The annual Arizona Cardnals Kickoff
Luncheon, sponsored by Alltel and KDUS/KSLX Radio, will
be hald from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September
2 at Phoenix Civic Plaza. The entire 2003 Cardinal
squad and coaching staff will be in attendance. Former
Cardinal quarterback Neil Lomax will be the featured

Phoenix: Approximately two and one-half hours.
Directions
I–17 north to Flagstaff. I–17 becomes Milton Road in
Flagstaff. Right on McConnell Drive (marked by N.A.U.
sign). Left on Knowles Drive, continue uphill to
Gabaldon Hall. All coaches, players, staff, and media
are housed in Gabaldon Hall.

Player interviews are conducted immediately following
practice sessions and in conjunction with noon and
evening meals. Head Coach Dave McGinnis will be
available to the media after all practices as he
departs the practice site. Members of the Cardinals’
public relations staff will assist the media in
arranging interviews with players and coaches.
