Cardinals sign Ed Stinson, who Darnell Dockett calls “the next Dockett”

Now that Stinson’s under contract, the fifth-round pick can go back to learning the ropes from Darnell Dockett. The veteran Cardinals end has taken Stinson under his wing while Calais Campbell works with third-round pick Kareem Martin and Dockett thinks that he can help mold Stinson into a replica of himself.

Ed Stinson will be the next Dockett if not better, I will give him all the tools and show him all the tricks. No one showed me but I will,” Dockett wrote on Twitter.

Nice to have the vets take the rookies under their wings.

Agreed. Apparently DD is still bitter the vets never did the same for him so he's going out of his way to make sure to not be the same to these rookies

That's cool as hell to hear 9-0 say that. That's a leader. Stinson will be a nice rotation player but he's not in the same league as Dockett when it's comes to explosiveness now the gap has closed but when he was young Dockett was a monster

The vets didn't dare help Dockett he was good enough to take their job as it was.

this says a lot about D90's character...and loyalty....dude recognizes this youngster is likely his replacement and he is helping him to be his best...good for the kid, and good for the team.

I had doubts about Darnell when we drafted him...but ya just gotta love the guy....he is a professional....tacky and goofy at times....but he takes his work seriously.

It was my understanding that Stinson was hurt and never 100% his senior season. He also played a traditional 3-4DE role. Taking blockerz so OLBs made plays. Considering 'bama's D, I'd say, even with his injury, he did that well enough starting all games but 1 as a senior. If DD really feels he has the tools to be his 2nd coming, I'm encouraged by that. He's a good dude, but he's not exactly one to tell anything but the absolute truth

I hope #90 restructures his deal and remains a card until the tank is emptying.

For me it would be much more heart breaking to see Dockett in another uniform than Fitzgerald. That's just me

For dockett first the team then the stats
For Fitzgerald first the stats then the team.
But we can see it from his father and brother tweet.

It speaks for Dockett's character; but more importantly, I believe it speaks loudly about the change of culture for the entire club.

agreed. Though the thing I thought spoke the loudest for the turnaround the Cardinals have made was Dansby's return. When he left, I thought never again would he be back in a Cards uniform. But then here he was, having his best year ever. I was so happy to see that. Now we've got 3 rookies who are pretty much slotted as replacements in Stinson, Martin, Thomas, that are all being taken under the wings of the guys they're essentially replacing. With the exception being CC really. He's got quite a bit of time left. It will more likely be CC and Martin with Stinson adding depth. But to have a Cards cornerstone like DD say and do something like this is awesome

It's funny how people say this about Dockett but not necessarily Fitzgerald. Just something I'm seeing more and more of on this board.

I expect it from 90. He is die hard birdgang. I never got the vibe from Fitz that I get from dockett. Fitz rocks still though.

Many are probably distancing themselves from Fitz to make the breakup easier

PS I am a firm believer dockett takes a cut and stays and have been saying it for a long time. Nothing new from me.

exactly

while DD's contract is going to be big, Fitz's contract is going to be massive. So getting DD back will hurt less. I love both those guys. Both are beasts on the field. Both are awesome individuals off the field. I had a chance to meet both at camp a couple years back. Way cool guys. DD was getting pulled away by then 1st yr DC Ray Horton, but still made time to BS a little, Fitz was the LAST person there. He went around and met everybody. He would chat up little kids about school and stuff. Just super classy. I'd absolutely LOVE to see both born a Cardinal and die a Cardinal. But this team is in a position to do big things, not just "soon", or "next year", NOW. And we can't be overpaying a player's value ON the field. I understand they have a significant value off the field as well, but community impact doesn't win Super Bowls. And that's where this team is at. A ring is VERY realistic, NOW. I hope these 2 see that, understand that - and want that - enough to do the organization a solid and play for less, allowing the organization to return the favor, giving them a ring in Cardinal red to go with their ROH spots, and probable retired jerseys. They will have been the key-stones, one offensively, one defensively, to this franchise's ascension from laughing stock of the league to SB Champions. Sacrificing ONE YEAR of salary would absolutely cement their legacies. And I wouldn't doubt the organization wanting to keep 'em around the front office afterwards either. What this organization has already accomplished with these guys is unbelievable. What the organization has the ability to accomplish with these guys, is legendary

Come on, that is total bunk about Fitz and the stats. Of course he cares about stats but the team comes first. Guy blocks just as hard as he tries to catch a pass for his teammates and the guy still gets ultra excited when a teammate does something good... guess you forgot seeing Fitz running down the sidelines and following guys about to score for the Cardinals. It is just Fitz is due a ton of money and I do not see how you can cut that without the pay reduction being huge. Dockett and Fitz are both team players :)
