Cardinals To Participate In Special Olympics "Operation Send-Off"
Tempe, AZ – Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowl kicker Neil Rackers along with guard Deuce Lutui and linebacker Isaac Keys will participate at the Special Olympics Arizona’s “Operation Send-Off” on Saturday, July 1 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at Swift Aviation (2710 E. Old Tower Road, Phoenix).
Eight sponsors – including Cardinals Vice President/General Counsel Michael Bidwill - will transport 45 Special Olympics Arizona athletes to represent “Team Arizona” in the Special Olympics National Games in Ames, Iowa. Each sponsor has donated private Citation Airlift Cessnas to transport the kids.
The other seven sponsors are Allied Waste Industries, Diversified Human Resources, Hensley and Co., Honeywell, Pratt Transportation, Tri State Care Flight and Open Box Arrow Ranch.
The players will participate at the continental breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. The first plane leaves at 8:35 a.m. and the final plane departs at 9:30 a.m.
In addition, Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner will preside over the closing ceremony of the games next Friday night in Iowa.
The goal of Special Olympics Arizona is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
All persons with developmental disabilities, regardless of ability level, may participate in the programs and sports offered by Special Olympics Arizona. Currently there are more than 7,000 Special Olympians in Arizona and over one million Special Olympians worldwide in over 140 nations.
