Cards Again Work For “Rebuilding Together”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, April 2, 2003
Tempe, Arizona — The Arizona Cardinals —- players,
cheerleaders, and front-office personnel -— again will
don overalls, painters’ caps, and work gloves this
Saturday, April 5 from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. when they join
approximately 4,000 other volunteers to participate in
“Rebuilding Together,” the Valley’s largest volunteer
repair and renovation program that targets low-income
neighborhoods.
Again this year, volunteers skilled in construction
trades will work alongside unskilled volunteers from
businesses, schools, churches, and service
organizations to repair homes and community projects.
The Cardinals, participating in the project formally
known as “Christmas In April” for the fifth consecutive
year, will help rehabilitate Sundance Lodge, located in
the Sunnyslope neighborhood of north Phoenix. Cardinal
volunteers will assist painting the facility,
landscaping, and installing new playground equipment.
The address and directions to this confidential, secure
facility are available by calling Tami Bohannon
(602/284–5712) or the Cardinals’ public relations
department (602/379–0101).
The Cardinal volunteers will include team Vice
President and General Counsel Michael Bidwill, front
office staff, 10 cheerleaders, approximately eight
current players—offensive tackle Anthony Clement, wide
receiver Bryan Gilmore, center Steve Grace, cornerback
Renaldo Hill, running back Travis Prentice, wide
receiver Jake Soliday, offensive guard Tony Wragge and
linebacker Michael Young—and three former Cardinals,
running back Jesse Clark, defensive lineman Ray
Perkins, and tight end Mark Walczak.
Sundance Lodge provides transitional housing and
support services to families (women and children) who
are homeless as a result of domestic violence under the
auspices of Catholic Social Services. The goal of the
program is to provide a safe family environment through
case management and shelter that will assist the
families to become stable economically, emotionally,
and physically.
A non-profit organization, “Rebuilding Together” seeks
to help low-income homeowners and communities by
becoming known in every community across the country as
the place elderly and disabled individuals can turn,
allowing them to remain in warmth, safety, and
independence. Since its inception 12 years ago,
“Rebuilding Together” has completed improvements
totaling over $4 million on 478 homes and 27 community
projects in Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Buckeye.
Nearly 35,000 volunteers representing more than 600
businesses and civic and community organizations have
participated.
