Bills | Talking Henry Trade with Cardinals Again - from www.KFFL.com
Fri, 25 Mar 2005 15:30:58 -0800

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals have picked up discussions on a trade that would send disgruntled RB Travis Henry from Buffalo to Arizona in exchange for OT L.J. Smith. The final hurdle that needs to be taken care of is that the Bills are also looking for the Cardinals to swap picks in the second round; meaning Buffalo would slide from the No. 55 overall spot down to the Cardinals No. 44 overall spot. The Cardinals, thus far, have not been willing to agree to that extra demand.

This may be a repeat of a past Lenny report but it just came out today, plus he has added that we are talking again something he didnt say in the last report. Meeting up in Hawaii at the NFL meetings was probably a catalyst to the new found talks.

Would be nice to see the Cards swap players and we get to swap 3rds The Pats with the Bills 3rd.

IMO, Arizona holds all the cards in this transaction, no way we should give up an above average tackle and draft position for a disgruntled back that no other team has shown interest for.

Thats like saying no way the Bills should give up a Pro-Bowl caliber RB and draft position for a disgruntled above average LT that other team havent really expressed much interest in. Goes both ways.

I'll give you that, even though I don't feel that LJ is disgruntled... but my logic is this:

Disgruntled LT > Disgruntled RB

I agree and disagree. LJ is currently a man without a position. If he isnt happy playing RT he certainly wont want to play guard. If he wasnt disgruntled he wouldnt have sought permission for a trade to begin with. So IMO there has to be some animoscity there.

A straight up trade I do this in a second. If they want picks or to move up in a round I say hell no.

I agree. Buffalo needs to pull their collective head out. Just swap Shelton for Henry and be done with it. Both teams win.

My question is this... Was LJ the driving force to pursue a trade or was it Cardinals management who gave him the courtesy of letting him seek a trade prior to a release

All I know is that the reports stated that he asked and recieved permission to seek a trade. Unless Im remembering incorrectly.

Disgruntled LT > Disgruntled RB

A: LT * Disgruntled * Above_Average * LT_Value/LT_In_Draft
B: RB * Disgruntled * (Above_Average+1) * RB_Value/RB_In_Draft

So, is it
A > B or A < B or A <= B or A >= B or A == B

Probably depends on how the factors LT_Value/LT_In_Draft and RB_Value/RB_In_Draft in the expression relate.

Just something for you math buffs to figure out... :D

I agree Shane, I'd love to see this trade happen. And, as much as I'd like to get Henry and not draft a RB at number 8, we can't swap those picks.

That is definitely how it was reported. However, that could've been to protect Shelton's trade value.

How about this scenerio? The Cards tell the Bills that they have a RB in mind for the #8 pick, and if he is taken before their pick then they make the Henry trade. The Cards then pick Rolle, or another CB.

If the RB the Cards want to draft is available, then we trade Shelton to the Dolphins for Surtain.

RB_Value/RB_In_Draft/ A ( A+B) (X) LT_Value/LT_In_Draft/2 (A + B)

= A. Rolle + T. Henry

Well, if their talent levels are similar, you go with the disgruntled RB first, hands down, ESPECIALLY if you have another player at LT and need a RB. Of course, Shelton is NOT an above-average LT. He's just about average. Henry is better at his position than Shelton, IMO.

Everything I've heard said that he was just happy to play--it didn't matter if it was RT, LT, G or CB--the man just wants to play football.

There is obviously a fracture between LJ and the current staff, but he's been nothing but a stand-up team player. He's never said publicly boo about being benched or re-positioned.

I agree to a point. I have known LJ and spoken to him several times over the last few years. So much so that he remembers me and makes a point to say hello when he sees me at training camp. Point being that everything hes shown me is that he is nothing but a hardworking stand up person. Especailly how he goes out of his way to come say hello to a fan.

But his lack of public outcry could be because he learned what it does to a player and the backlash it could have(much like people calling Henry a malcontent). He was outspoken the year he was drafted and held out people didnt like it.

I agree he wants to play but you can bet he wants to be a LT and has no desires of playing at G.
