Joey Porter picks the Cardinals

Well, here's something for Darnell Dockett to celebrate.

Free agent linebacker Joey Porter has agreed to a three-year contract with the Cardinals, according Darren Urban of the team's official website.

Porter wrapped up a visit with the Redskins Friday, but he's achieved his goal of playing closer to the West Coast. He should get a starting job with a team that needs to improve its pass rush.

It's questionable how much Porter has left in the tank, and the signing could backfire quickly, especially if the Cardinals gave up major money.

But the move is already popular in the locker room. Dockett said 12 days ago that Porter is all he wanted for Christmas and he's quickly chimed in on the move:

"BIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDGANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG!!Yeaaaaaaaaaaaahh ohhhh leeeeettttttssss DOOOO IT!," Dockett tweeted.

We think he likes it.

This is an awesome signing. I definitely think we are set at OLB unless we decide to pick a late round guy that we can develop on the PS. I would like to see us pick someone like Selvie or Cunningham if we can get them in the 4th or trade back into the 5th.

I really wouldn't mind taking him late. He's like CC only his stock fared much, much worse. Which could be great for us. This opens up the draft for us a LOT, I really have no idea which way we will go. DT, CB, OT, ILB...all possibilities in the first. I'm all for a Mount Cody/ILB/CB combo in the first 3 rounds. Maybe an OT depending on who drops and how confident we are in the guys on our roster.

Well, Porter with "not much left in the tank" is still good for around 10 sacks and is MUCH better than anyone else on the roster to date...

This makes me feel a lot better (relatively) about the defense this season.

I thought Selvie was sweet when I watched him and I looked up his projection after I posted and he is slotted as a 2nd or third rounder. The thing with the OLB position now is that even if we pick one, they would most likely not make the active roster unless they are a very high pick, and all of the guys I want as OLB sleepers are third or fourth rounders and we should be spending those picks on guys that will definitely make the team. I think we are all set with the position. We have two young guys in Davis and Brown. Two vets who can still play in Porter and Haggans (I think its great we are pairing them together again) and an experiment in Baggs.

Now we just need to spend picks on NT, ILB (I would like two picks here, one WILB and one SILB), and CB and we will have a great blend of experience and youth on the D with good depth at every position. I'm actually really excited to watch this defense next year.

With LOTT's conditioning regiment Porter will be in great shape...!!!

So much for all the talk on not giving in to Porter. He was after 6 per year and almost got. The guaranteed $ will be the key.

Agreed. Great signing, but I would like to see the structure of the contract. No worries though, I have faith in the Cards.

That's a sweet deal for him. We probably needed to do it to solidify things. There must be buyouts included, if they need to go that route.

NFL doesn't need buy outs. If they dont want him anymore, they just cut him like everyone else does.

Yeah we have a ton of OLB's, so whoever we pick deep would have to make it to the practice roster. I definitely want an ILB somewhere in the first 3 rounds and wouldn't be against taking one somewhere later in the draft.
