Cards Claim Cornerback, Establish Practice Squad
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 3:16pm

Tempe, Arizona—The Arizona Cardinals have claimed
cornerback Jason Goss via waivers from the Chicago
Bears and established their five-player practice squad.

Goss signed with the Bears as a free agent following
his college career at Texas Christian where he started
41 games and was selected twice to the all-Conference
USA squad. His 14 interceptions tied for fifth in
school history and he added 158 tackles, 59 pass
deflections, and posted a 10.5-yard average on 38 punt
returns with one touchdown. Last year for the Horned
Frogs, the 5–10, 185-pounder from Fort Worth, Texas
tied the school single-season record with eight
interceptions.

The Cardinals’ practice squad is comprised of five
re-signed players—tight end Lornezo Diamond, linebacker
Tony Gilbert, defensive end Alton Moore, fullback
Joshua Rue, and guard Tony Wragge.

To make room on the roster for Goss, defensive back
Nijrell Eason was released.

What?
I was worried Rue wasn't going to make it to the PS.

What a bummer for Eason. Anyone remember Goss from this preseason?

That's what I'm wondering. I don't remember him from that game, but I went to it, I didn't see the telecast. Maybe he was a special teams standout? Maybe Mac just wanted a TCU guy?

Skkorp, are you watching the Bears game?

I like the addition of Goss, I'm sure we had good tape of him when we played the Bears, so hopefully we saw something special there.

I think AZCB34 brought Goss up last week as a guy we should think of going after, good call on that one CB34, do any of your Bear fans have anything one way or another to say about him?

Strange, they think this kid is better than Molden? Well, I hope they know something we don't.

Yes he did play the week before. He had two tackles and two passes defensed.

The feeling wa he had potential but wasn't able to unseat any of the top 4 CBs (McQuarters, Azumah, McMillon or Tillman...Tillman had a huge camp from what I have heard). Not sure why they chose Brock Williams for 5th CB over Goss but most things I have read since Goss was cut was that he would be immediately picked up to the practice squad as he was showing potential.

I don't know quite enough to judge why he wasn;t kept as 5th CB so a potential red falg there. Not many fans are surprised he was cut but there was surprise and some disappointment he was snagged off waivers.

He is a guy who caught my eye when he played in college. With some work and experience I personally believe he can make it.

I, too, was sorry to see Eason go but the practice squad looks good.

Wonder what the Cards know about Goss. Football Weekly has his 40 speed at 4.67 seconds. You wouldn't think that would cut it for covering the top receivers in the NFL. Maybe they're thought is Goss as a punt returner!
