Tuesday, October 7 was a busy day in the community for the Arizona Cardinals.

Tuesday morning, defensive tackle Marcus Bell and mascot Big Red hosted fifth-grade students from Rover Elementary for a Gatorade Junior Training Camp at the Cardinals Training Facility.

Later in the afternoon, defensive end Calvin Pace, the Cardinals first-round draft choice, joined Big Red to host a ADHS Kids Camp at the facility.

Then to close out the day, the Cards teamed with Valley of the Sun United Way for the fifth annual NFL & United Way Hometown Huddle.

Cardinal players Anquan Boldin, Tony Gilbert, Gerald Hayes, Kenny King, Nathan Poole, Reggie Wells, and Tony Wragge spent several hours with 100 school children from the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix, Friendly House, Foundation for Blind Children, Salvation Army, United Methodist Outreach Ministries, and the YMCA Valley of the Sun.

The kids participated in a football clinic at the facility that included different skill stations, as well as a reading, autograph, and a question-and-answer session with the players.

Participants were chosen from organizations based upon reading criteria as part of the NFL’s literacy initiative.

Valley of the Sun United Way has been serving the human care needs of our community for more than 75 years. Through nearly 500 local programs, United Way is a leader in providing quality solutions to critical needs throughout Maricopa County.
