Cardinals could be interested in Marc Bulger

Posted by Mike Florio on April 8, 2010 7:57 PM ET
The Cardinals have quarterbacks Matt Leinart and Derek Anderson on the roster. They're expected to soon bring back veteran understudy Brian St. Pierre.

But we're hearing that they may be interested in veteran Marc Bulger.

Though the Rams ostensibly did Bulger a favor by cutting him, Bulger already might have been a Cardinal if he'd been available in early March, since the team likely would have pursued him instead of Derek Anderson.

Still, don't rule out the addition of Bulger, the man who succeeded former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner in Arizona. Most teams take four quarterbacks to training camp, and it's possible that the Cardinals would give Bulger a chance to bump Anderson off the roster -- and then to bump Leinart out of the starting lineup.

It's unknown whether any other teams have actively pursued Bulger, a ten-year veteran from West Virginia.

So... from "could" and "may" be interested this piece of speculation moves to an active pursuit. Too funny!

(Graves has already said, that we have no interest)

I like Bulger better than BSP. I'd like to see a vet added to the mix; maybe Brunnel? (sp?)

I don't know. I don't think Bulger would come in as a #3.

I think I would prefer a low round rookie to learn the system that understands he is not the starter now.

But the Cards are a very attractive team for QB's right now with Fitz, Breaston and Doucett, Beanie Wells and Hightower and an improving O-line. But you have to beat the depth chart at QB.

Those ESPN guys are urinating in the Cheerios again. Man, they must be "biased" and they must be "Matty haters." In fact, not only are they reporting that they've heard the Cardinals are interested in Bulger and speculating that Bulger would knock Anderson off the roster and replace Leinart as the starting QB, they have another thread on the website now titled: "With the Cardinals' QB situation in flux, Larry Fitzgerald's fantasy stock is falling."

How dare they show such bias. Who do they think they are?

Haven't they understood that Whiz has declared Matty is "The Guy"?

Weren't they the ones to break the story two years ago, after Matty threw 3 ints versus the Raiders in pre-season that Warner would be named the starter?

How dare they mess with Matty again.

This satire is to point out to you Crazy Canuck that just because there are some on this board who don't share your optimism for Leinart, which is also shared nationally (obviously), that labeling posters who are being honest about their opinions "biased" is weak and uncalled for.

I will eat a hockey puck in Macy's window (formerly Marshall Fields here) if he does not sign with the Bears. No possible way Cards bring him in, unless Anderson slips on a banana peel and breaks his back....heaven forbid.

wait a second...might take that back....a crazy trade (nah, KW would not consider it) to either Seattle or Rams with draft choices involved...nah, I'll stick with my hockey puck story,

I'll take the "field(s)."

Do they (the store formerly known as marshall fields) still sell those box of chocolate mints? (I'm from chicago and I remember my family getting these around xmas for some reason)

If so, how about if Bulger signs with any other team than the Bears, you send me two of those and if he does sign with the bears I'll send you a six-pack of the colorado micro brew of your choice (so long as it's available and reasonable).

Get ready for "McNabb part 2"

Conjecture comes out about another former Pro Bowl QB and now the Cards are going to sign this guy and make him the starter over Matty. :barf:

Id like to see some solid reporting from a guy named Urban or Somers before I even break a sweat about this.

As I said in another thread, he is probably not coming here because he would be slotted as the #3 as soon as he walks into TC. He's probably going to look for a team where he is the guaranteed #2 with a chance at the starters role

I've never thought he was that good, but if he has the cache to compete for a starters job and command that kind of salary right now, good for him.

I don't think so either. Doesn't mean the Cards aren't interested in the possibility.
Hard to see him interested in being a #3, but you never know. More than likely he would want to go where he has a chance to play and/or compete for a starting job.

The difference is that when I flip on ESPN everyday I don't see them bashing and doubting Leinart with every comment they make. You continue to bash him at every possible turn which is why it makes you seem biased. If you had stated your opinion once, twice, or even three times, it wouldn't be a big deal. It's the way that so many of your posts are just the same things over and over again about how ML isn't right for the job that has led to speculation about your objectivity.

I have my doubts about him, but I also want to believe that Whiz would have gotten an heir apparent to Warner last year (knowing Kurt's age and possibility of retirement) if he had no confidence in him at all.

Everyone here knows how you feel about him, so why not just move on and let it play out for better or for worse? Nobody here is going to influence the decision of Whiz anyway.

I know this is a shot against CC, but remember that this article came from Florio; notorious Cardinals hater. This might as well been created by The Onion.

OT: Deal!!! You mean of course Frango Mints....they stopped making them in Chicago for awhile but I think they are back in town now...yeah, they still sell them....I don't believe they will melt if I send them during the summer....martz+bulger will make sense for them...anything less than the playoff's and lovie and co are out the door...by the way i still call them the chicago cardinals to some of my minyon....unfortunately i go back that far with them.

Mitch, you complain about people picking on you and being insulting and belittling and all that kind of stuff...yet you constantly turn around and do it yourself. Why? You don't like ML and don't think he'll be the QB this year. Other people take the team at their word and think he will. Is it possible we can let it rest there, rather than continue to instigate people over and over?

Read the above, take out your name and your opinions, fill it full of the opinions you are so adamantly against, and pretend someone wrote it to you. You'd go nuts.

Chill, sit back and relax, enjoy the draft and the lead up to the season. We'll find out soon enough who is right and who is wrong, and how the team will shape up at the QB position.

He might be somewhat content with picking up a check for clipboard duty, after the ass beatings he has endured the last few years.

PFT is the same site that ranked the top ILB in the draft and did not predict the Cardinals to take ANY of them, despite the fact that even helen keller knows that ILB is our biggest need going into the draft.

I merely pointed out that the piece moved from "could" and "may" be interested to an "active pursuit" of Bulger. A progression in thought that even someone like you, not unfamiliar with leaps in logic, might question.

As satire, your response - certainly fails the test of humour.

And... let it be said again: You are biased against Leinart, and the evidence is overwhelming.
