I disagree with this. I keep making business analogies, but I interview people in house and externally before making a decision, even if it takes a long time. You have to go through the process.

So if you interview someone who blows your socks off you say, “You did very, we’ll be in touch.” Then you let a great candidate walk out your door when you know other companies are hiring for the same job. Wow! We sure handle that situation differently.

Credibility will happen when we win something.

Doesn't matter if we hire Vince Lombardi or the Plano, TX high school coach. If the guy we hire proves to be a consistent winner, credibility will follow.

if they follow up the hire with a good FA period and a rock solid draft it will suck less. I mean hell, we've all left the bar with a chubby chick before...it aint the end of the world

It is when she doesn’t leave your house for the next four years and starts making all major decisions.

Believing any woman who actually goes home with me is going to make GOOD decisions in the future is folly.
lmao I have recently come to a similar conclusion... the fact that a woman would keep me around is the first strike as she obviously makes bad decisions, lol

Yep, I do. Because I don't know if there's a candidate who is out there in the process who is also going to blow my socks off, but bring something else to the organization's chemistry. I don't know if bringing a complete outsider onto a management level and waiting for them to take 6 months to learn the business, suggest blowing up the team, and implement the ideas to a level of success is going to be all that much better than that person I've spent years nurturing for an eventual promotion - especially if that person moving up one level means I can also hire two hugely experienced workers below him to make sure the nuts and bolts of the business are sound.

Not to mention, I'm also aware from personal experience that sometimes you need a second perspective on one person to know whether or not they're consistent, or pulling the wool over your eyes with the same flashy presentation they're giving all of the other businesses on the first go around.

Conversely, if you interview 9 people that blows your socks off, then yes, you have to narrow it down and find someone who differentiates themselves.

I think it also depends on the age and experience of the one hiring, and in this case Michael Bidwill. He is an amazing owner in my opinion because he wants to win, is humble but also wise. If he was older and had a great grasp of the position, then hell yes you hire one who blows your socks off in a interview right off the cuff but not if you have very little to judge your opinion due to your experience and you are cognitive of your current state

Yep, agreed. He is trying to run this organization right - bringing in stable head coaches that are going to complement Keim and the organization without creating drama or rifts. He also wants the organization to be representative of himself and the community, hiring only guys with true class.

BA was a lot of good things, but true class is a bit of a stretch for a guy who talked as much ish as he did.

Anyone they hire from here on knows it's their 3rd or 4th choice (Shurmur #1, Munchak #2). If it's Bettcher it is likely their #5th choice. Oh boy we are entering Suns territory.

Man this depresses the hell out of me

I really hope ARZ is not holding on to hope for Shurmur (unless he is already in the fold and no one knows). Hire Wilks and get it over with, I don't think JDF would come here as an OC when he might get a HC position, so unless Bevell ends up in CHI maybe he ends up here. I heard an Indy beat writer mention that Pagano may take some time off meaning he might not coach this year. He mentioned Pagano would rather take an DC job than HC but just recently turned down a reunion with John Harbaugh in BAL.

Ideal dream scenario:
HC - Wilks
OC - De Filippo
DC - Flores
ST - Armstrong

Likely to happen:
HC - Wilks
OC - Mularkey
DC - Bettcher
ST - McGaughey (CAR ST Coach)

Bruce may curse, drink, and have swagger to him, but you can't doubt in any way shape or form that he's respected, never got into any real trouble with the law, treated others with honesty and respect, contributed to the community, and treated that Pagano situation in a way few others could.

Class comes in different packages.

Does it really matter who the coach is? With SK not happy with the performance of the roster he has put together and no qb for the new coach to work with. He has already mentioned that his roster will have major changes this off-season. May be a couple years or more till the roster gets to where he is comfortable with his roster. The odds are that any coach that is here for that timeframe will be scapegoated for losses while the roster transformation takes place.

This roster can be fixed by august. We are not in that bad of shape.

Our biggest challenge remains QB,... but we can win even with a rookie as long as the offensive play design highlights the kids strengths.

I still say you’re overselling the defense! Forget the yardage rankings this defense is good but imo doesn’t pass the eyeball test.

They make no adjustments, can’t stop a screen pass, blow numerous big leads, have trouble on 3rd & long, struggle in zone defense & get smoked by good offenses!

I also think we played some really bad offenses last year especially down the stretch which lead to an even bigger delusion of greatness

Can I just make the point that if Bettcher was such a gem of a potential HC candidate, why hasn't another team interviewed him? Hell, even if it is just to feel out how he is in the room. He has been with a couple difference organizations, and has had a prominent role with AZ. If he is so good, wouldn't the insular NFL culture be trying to snatch him up. In my mind, the reason is pretty obvious, but I am biased.

At this time with Cardinals onto to their 3rd or 4th option, so this would be my plan:

Hire the insider! Hire Bettcher as HC, Pagano as DC, Bevell as OC
Let Amos Jones Go
Keep good staff like Buckner etc
Keep Tom Moore
2018 is a very good FA QB market. Cousins, Brees, Bradford, Keenum, Bridgewater, Alex Smith, Tyrod Taylor etc are all likely available. Sign one of them.
Draft a QB in top 2 rounds. If not stock up on some draft picks for next year.
Use draft to get CB, OL and some depth
Use FA to fill WR #1 and other needs. Hopefully Fitz is back.
Ensure OL can run block better than pass block. If it can do both, better
Run the ball and rely on play action passing (All the above FA QBs are good at it). Bevell is really good at it.

Fingers crossed
