Any passing game requires a decent running game. I do not remember when we last had a good running game. We are going to face the same problem this year as the defenses will line up to stop the pass and our your QB who has enough to deal with will need all the scrambling ability he has. We just do not have a premier running back or one that can take it to the house. I think we were last in the league in scoring running TD's last year and this is nothing new. I think people seem to be overlooking our running problems simply because we have 3 excellent receivers. They will be covered with a blanket if we cannot get some yardage on the ground.
Tell the 2003 Pats about the necessity of a running game. 27th-ranked rushing offense in the NFL. Less than 5 more yards per game over the Arizona Cardinals.
I do agree with you, but there's nothing we can do about that. Eddie isn't going to scare defenses any more than Marcel Shipp or Emmitt Smith do. What we
have seen the past couple years is defenses throwing 8 or even 9 men in the box, and then daring the offense to make them pay for it. To this point, it hasn't happened. If we can open up the offense (finally), there might be holes underneath to make the running game happen (if Emmitt and/or Marcel can find them). More pieces have to work in concert for that to happen, but it can.
I'm skeptical, but worrying about how our runningbacks suck isn't going to get Kevin Jones out of blue and gray and into red and white, you know?
