Hey, it's NOT what I want to see. I'm just taking Graves at his word that we would use most of our upcoming cap space on retaining and extending our guys. I fully expect us to use roster bonuses, rather than signing bonuses, like we did last year.

Give me the check book, I'd kick some butt in free agency. ;)

Wait, when did Graves say that? I sure in the heck hope he didn't say that during this season (no internet access, remember), because the same old song-and-dance story LAST offseason was that we ate up cap space THEN to be able to spend more THIS offseason. I mean, if Graves does the same 'keep our powder dry' crap again this time around, there will be no one left who can make any excuses for him.

Well, then, set your outrage to holocaust and click on this link: http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=102375&highlight=Graves+free+agency+active

I wish that Graves would think more about what he says. Didn't the Cards sign seven players in free agency last season? That's not bad. If the Cards sign five and then add another 7 through the draft, I don't think that anyone will be angry here.

Wow, that's outrageous. We can keep our RFA's, extend Fitz, sign Dansby and Pace, AND still have a ton of money for the FA market. Now, if we do all of that with idiotically frontloaded contracts, then sure, we'll kill our chances to actually improve the team in FA.

Ah, already dealing with Graves stuff...it's good to be back.

careful with the Graves comments. They usually get you called diseased or some other kind of comment specifically aimed to irritate you personally (sometimes by a moderator of the forum), then the thread will get locked, but not before a moderator likely gets the last word in, completely misrepresenting your initial comments to make you look like a fool. Then, you'll see an entire thread dedicated to "negative" posting as the reason this place is going downhill as opposed to the personal attacks made on people who don't perpetually whistle dixie.

BJ will play somewhere else and be a #1 or a #2. Take it to the bank.

Perhaps. But here, he will never be that player. So why keep him in the fold for the contract his agent will want based on the above argument? It just doesn't work for us. Or at least it shouldn't. Let him walk and direct our monies elswhere. I think Matt Trannon will be a super #3 reciever. Breaston will become our deep threat next season. He's at least as fast as BJ, isn't he?

on Faneca -- he has been in the league 10 years and just turned 30. That is a fair amount of mileage on the treads.

As for Suggs-- I think you could have both Pace and Suggs -- and create a pretty talented and young four linebacker set of Pace/Hayes/Dansby/Suggs.

:yeahthat: plus if we are to use a 4 Lb set more we need more Lb's plain and simple. After Dansby, Hayes and Pace it is a severe drop off. Also I realize Chike will be back next year, but he would make a good backup at the 2 OLB positions... I guess what I am trying to say is we need more depth at LB and starters at DE, CB and FS

I think you greatly underestimate B.J.'s value. He has been a very good receiver for us even under the shadow of Boldin and Fitz. Without him we would have even more problems when Fitz and Boldin were both down.
I don't. Right now he's going against a teams 3rd or 4th DB and he hasn't been anything to write home about. What's he going to do when he's going against teams #1's or #2's? Probably struggle like he has most of the time he's had to fill a starters role.

Not really, though. If you watched the game on Sunday, you'd have noticed that it was Anquan who was playing out of the slot most of the time on his big day. It was Bryant Johnson who was matched up with #1s or #2s, allowing #81 to have his big day.

Bryant Johnson's biggest issue is that he's not a great fit for this offense. He runs good routes, and has good deep speed, but he's not explosive in and out of his cuts, and so he has problems getting separation in the middle areas of the field. If he goes to a vertical passing offense, he should be fine. But if he goes to a West Coast passing team, where he'll be expected to get most of his yards after the catch, he's going to have problems.

Daisy, I've never seen that good deep speed you speak of, from Bryant Johnson.

Didn't he lead the league in YPC last season? He does get behind corners and safeties when running the "go" route; he seemed to do it pretty frequently last season.

I got confirmation from Darren Urban, Antonio Smith is a RFA and the cards will definitely tender him.

Uh, Daisy, Bryant Johnson led the league in nothing last year, certainly not ypc, as you state. Evidence the stats from NFl.com provided in the link below.

Logic and the eyeball test both tell us if he was fast, he'd get open often and score more. He does neither.

Sorry. I guess I was wrong. He was 4th in the NFL in YPC (18.5 :wow:) among WRs with more than 20 catches in a season.

Byrant Johnson is more than likely going to jump ship. The 49ers, Dolphins, or the Vikings are likely landing spots for Johnson. I only have one worry about Dansby being resigned. To me he is a contract player. I still havn't gotten over the thumb injury issue.
