The Cardinals have made an offer to a future Hall of Famer and inquired about the status of another.

Rod Graves, the team's vice president for football operations, confirmed that he made an offer Monday evening to former Dallas running back Emmitt Smith, who visited last week.

Graves declined further comment about the negotiations, and Smith's agent, Eugene Parker, did not return calls.

The team has also has called the San Diego Chargers to inquire about linebacker Junior Seau, who has been given permission by the team to pursue a trade. If that doesn't happen, Seau likely will be cut.

"Why wouldn't any team have an interest in a player like that?" Graves said. "We're just doing our inquiries, trying to find out a little bit about what's going on with him."

Graves emphasized, however, that he had just made contact with the Chargers but had not discussed trade possibilities.
