If true, it more accurately means Dansby has reopened talks...which is a good thing no matter how slight the reality of something getting done

That is good news and I do think that his deal gets done. I'm not convinced that Dansby really wants to test the uncapped market in 2010 mainly due to injury risk. Besides, I'm sure his agent is astute enough to know that the value of a dollar is much greater in 2009 than it will be in 2010 (by a lot) which will somewhat negate the extra $$$. On top of that, a good financial planner can do a lot with $35m in the current market . His agent will look to get him paid in 2009.

overlooked thus far in this thread is the comment that laboy is to undergo more surgery on his ankle. his release is looking prudent.

At least get Wilson locked up.

If I were a numbers guy (which I'm not) I say there is an 85% chance we get Wilson signed before training camp. The two sides want this deal done and I think they're both motivated enough.

I'd say for Dansby, its 50/50 it gets done.

I would say it is more of a 30% chance, but I hope I'm dead wrong and Dansby's gets a deal worked out and of course Wilson getting a deal done would be FANTASTIC! and highly possible

All I care about is getting Wilson done for a myriad of different reasons both on and off the field.

I am resigned to Dansby leaving. TJ said 50/50. I'd put it more at 1 out of 1,000,000.

Think about it from his perspective. Dansby sees whats going on around him with Q and Dockett. Like any ego driven player he thinks his career is only going to get better from here on out. And you know he thinks he is going to have a big year upcoming. So why would he sign this offseason and then blow up this year (again in his minds eye) and then only one year later have a deal thats under market value for maybe the top LB in the league. Keep in mind I am not saying that but I am sure he wants to get paid Bart Scott/Aaron Curry money and belives he is better then them for sure. Obviously the security piece doesn't interest him all that much or he would have kept his old agent and got this done in the past 2 seasons.

He sees what he perceives to be the mistakes Boldin and Dockett made costing themselves millions by taking the "security". I just don't see anyway Karlos signs a deal this offseason.

Now maybe he goes through this year and we offer him the best deal and he takes it. But his eye is on the uncapped year. That I promise.

you know unless Dansby really does not want to be Cardinal or rather the team does not matter either way as long as he gets his money, then he is going to ask for a huge contract but if Wilson is in the mix during the talks, it is highly possible that Wilson responding sooner will hurt Karlos' chances of getting all the money he wants with the Cards. I'm not saying Wilson will not ask for his due but he seems more inclined to stick with the team and could sign before Dansby lessening Dansby's pot which could be available. Dansby, might want to consider this possibly

Great post, AF! Your take on Dansby is right on.

The irony is that by wanting out, Dansby is holding up AW (perhaps to a lesser degree) and Q (to a far more greater degree). That's what stinks.

Aaron Curry is a rookie and because of the flawed rookie scale, he will be grossly overpaid.

With the uncertainty of the market next season, Dansby would be wise to sign a deal this season. The going rate for a pro bowl linebacker is 6 years 50 mil w/ 20 mil guaranteed, a la James Harrison and Bart Scott. This is down from paying one hit wonder linebackers like Calvin Pace $22 mil guaranteed last season. I believe the Cards were prepared to pay him more than Harrison when he fired his agent.

Dansby is gambling if he doesn't get a contract done. He has yet to make a pro bowl (alternates don't count). If he has another non pro bowl year or gets injured somehow, with the uncapped year, he may get screwed.

There is no doubt about that... how clear does he need to be? He wants a BIG SPLASH in the uncapped year, next year.

Get Wilson done... get Boldin done afterwards.

Aaron Curry wasn't really the point and because you pulled that out of everything I wrote I am not sure you really understand my premise.

Its apparent you understand how TJ UofA thinks. I am less convinced you are able to empathize with Karlos Dansby or any other NFL player and their thought process.

Dansby won't sign this offseason. And if he does I wil happily forward over all my ASFN money.

I understand your premise. Dansby wants to win the lottery by waiting to see what the free agent pool has to offer next season. At the same token, I don't think Dansby's agent and the Cards are going to squash contract talks. Anything is possible, especially if the Cards are motivated to get this year's cap number down to re-sign Wilson and the unlikely event they re-sign Boldin.
