The Arizona Cardinals filled a need they have been looking at for a little while when they signed veteran cornerback Justin Miller today.
Miller, a second-round pick by the New York Jets in 2005, received a one-year contract. He participated in minicamp last weekend on a tryout basis and apparently Arizona saw what is was looking for in him.
The five-year veteran has also been a Pro Bowl returner in his career. He played in one game with the Oakland Raiders last season and one game with the Jets. Miller has 12 career starts and could fill a role as a backup man. The Cardinals recently used Trumaine McBride, an ex-Chicago Bear, as their nickel back and they could be seeking an upgrade over him.
As the National Football Post reported last week, veteran cornerback Will James is visiting the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers today. James was considered a possibility for the Cardinals. With Miller on board, it’s less likely they’ll take action on James.
